Some Ideas

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I was thinking we could start discussing what we want in our next meeting (March hopefully). A couple ideas that were discussed quite a bit were multisite configuration, SCORM, and probably more that Im just spacing right now. A couple of ideas that I have thought could be helpful as well are Drupal 6, and AJAX in Drupal.

If we could have someone with some good experience on one of those topics, then we could have them put together a mini-presentation. Then we could turn it into a discussion type setting, where we give our own concepts or ask questions. I have been working with Drupal 6 somewhat on my own projects. If Drupal 6 is a topic wanted, I could try a little presentation on changes from Drupal 5 to 6. However, I am personally really interested in the multisite configuration, since I have not attempted to set that up yet.

Hopefully, we could also include maybe presentations of a completed project by a member (or members) once a month as well. See some of the custom modules created, themes created, contributed modules used, and other items of interest.

What thoughts do other people have to try to get this group up and going consistently?

DrupalCon report

I would love to hear a DrupalCon report from Brett, who I believe was going to Boston in March. Also, I'd be happy to present a mini-presentation on multisite, since I've used it quite a bit.

I second Chuck's vote on a report from Boston. I also think that a Multi-site discussion is high up there on everyone's priority list.

Boston report is definitely doable. I'm going to be going to a lot of education/training related classes, so it might be heavy towards those, but i'm going to other site building classes as well.

I, too, would love a multi-site discussion.

I would be very interested

Joomla comparison

I'd like a presentation on the similarities and differences between Drupal and Joomla.

Anyone Interested

I have some basic experience with Joomla. I didn't spend even enough time to see the good things it had to offer. We could probably have an open discussion about it, but I don't know how beneficial this would be to our "Drupal Ninja Skills."

Joomla Comparison

smoothdzion's picture

A few years back I did a lot of Joomla stuff. I'm a little rusty. I definitely like Drupal a lot better now. It might be good to compare them. I think the terminology and admin interface is the big difference. I don't know how the templating works now. They just release 1.5 which took 2 years to release. I might be able to help with the comparison. I'd have to resurrect the trash bin in my mind. Like amariotti said, I'm not sure how it could help with Drupal. Might be good I guess just to have more ammo in a Drupal vs Joomla discussion but that's about it.

Joomla

I think that the Drupal vs Joomla comparison could have some value, even if it doesn't polish our "Drupal Ninja Skills". It's apparent that Joomla is doing some things right, since they have the larger community. It's good to know Drupal's shortcomings as compared to its competition, and not only as ammo for discussions. As Drupal community members, we all have the responsibility to look for ways to improve Drupal. If we can identify these shortcomings and understand how the competition handles them, we can directly contribute to the improvement of Drupal.

My concern, though, is that we may not have the expertise within our group to effectively analyze the pros and cons of Joomla. And it may just turn into telling horror stories and Joomla bashing. (at least that's all I'd have to contribute!)

Correct me if I'm wrong. Do we have anyone in this group who can consider themselves an expert to represent Joomla?
