Can we add verbiage to the "add job" rules?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

This morning, a company looking to hire a Drupal developer posted to two groups, including the Contributed Module Status group that I manage.

Although I have VERY CLEAR language in the group's description that job postings are NOT allowed per the following...

(NOTE: This group is NOT for job postings and any posted here will be removed. It is suggested that you place your job postings in the Consulting and Business group. Repeat: jobs posted here will be removed.)

...job posters often do not visit each group when posting via the Submit Job form to see if any group they're posting to has special rules on what to post and what not to post. Hence, they post job forms to groups they shouldn't be posting, as in the case of the Contributed Module Status group, a group with over 1600 subscribers. The result is that I email the job posters on average about once a week to remove their job form. I email them because I don't want to just remove their job form from my group because then they won't learn and I don't want to just delete their job form either because I think that would be rude.

Here's the job poster's response:

Hi Walt,

Sorry about that. But I don't see anywhere in the "submit job form" that I can't post to "Contributed Module Status". I even see the opposite because I have the possibility in Groups to send the job to this group.

The only way to know that you cannot post a job in this category is to go to "Contributed Module Status". Am I missing something ?

Thanks and again sorry about that but if you don't want jobs to be posted to a certain category I would suggest to not give the option to do it.

Jeff
PS : thanks for this forum

Since I don't think it's practical to NOT allow job form postings to public groups (I think that would require some coding and UI changes), my suggestion is to simply add verbiage to the job form such as:

We want you to get the most out of your job posting so please read the following rules.

  • Please be familiar with the group's rules, if any, you're posting to. Rules can often be found on the group's home page.
  • Although most groups are public, a few public groups do NOT allow or desire job form postings.
  • If you post a job form to a group that does NOT allow them, that group might delete your job form posting.

I'm open to suggestions to help alleviate this issue. Any thoughts and suggestions?

Sounds reasonable

First off, I really wanted to say, "Duh!" to the person who emailed you. I mean, it should just be common sense when posting a job that you post it to appropriate groups and not just pick random groups that you aren't familiar with. But, given the amount of people who apparently lack common sense, your suggestion for additional text sounds reasonable to me.

I think it is reasonable for

I think it is reasonable for group admins to declare what types can and can't be posted in their group. i'll work up some code. won't happen real soon, but when it does we shall rejoice. i think there is some OG contrib module that purports to do this but it is so trivial i will just do it in og.
