Strategic Marketing of Drupal

I'm fairly new to the marketing group so please forgive if my post is old news/irrelevant/something else bad, but I guess I have to begin somewhere.

I've been using Drupal for 2 or 3 years now. What I've found over that time is a couple of things in particular that I think could make a major impact on Drupal usage:

1. Ensuring that Drupal is available on shared hosting platforms. I've come across plenty of hosting providers that offer Fantastico installs of a range of (normally) open source tools. Drupal is sometimes included as part of this offer, but not as often as some other CMS tools such as Joomla!. Where it is made available it is frequently an old version, with known security issues. One hosting provider I know fairly well is Directi/Logicboxes, who have hundreds of thousands of hosting accounts globally. Their Linux hosting offer includes a small selection of open source scripts, but notably does not include Drupal, which I know runs on their shared hosting platform (I've just recently installed D6 into one of their accounts). Getting Drupal onto that list of scripts could potentially increase the user base by tens of thousands in a very short timescale.
2. Module presentation/management. One of Drupal's strengths, and also one of its greatest weaknesses from a marketing perspective, is the plethora of contributed modules. It's great to see such a welath of tools available to site builders, but there is effectively too much choice, and too little management and useful presentation of those choices. As a new user I would be overwhelmed, baffled, and be offered very little guidance as to what is good, what is well supported, and what is not.
