Planetwork networking dinner September 27
Hi all. I attended some of these monthly planetworks functions in SF, and they were very interesting. It's oriented towards techology and social consciousness. Portland Drupal Meeting for October?
I was hoping to get involved in the Portland, Oregon, drupal group. I heard that you had meetings on the second Tuesday of each month, but I didn't see anything listed on the groups.drupal.org website. Will there be a meeting this Tuesday (Oct. 10, 2006)?
What is the time and location of the meeting?
I live about two hours outside of Portland, but would drive in for the meeting.

Did you know Dries is going to be in town?
Tuesday night is free for him, so hopefully some folks can make it out. I've put 7pm as the suggested time, we could do a bit earlier as well.

P.S. Sorry for parachuting in to the group...I'm going to be in town to see Dries and he doesn't have time to organize anything. I have no idea on locations. On Monday night, I'm going to a Geek Dinner at the Blue Moon Tavern. Dries is staying at the Marriot Courtyard, so something vaguely in the vicinity would be good.

Drupal Assistant Needed
I landed a few contracts with bay area clients that needed me to set up some drupal installations for them. I'm looking for a local (Portland) assistant to 1099 to. Low-impact, easy work, but you need to be available. What would be most helpful is if you were also good with xhtml/css and maybe graphic design. Especially if you could receive an html design and then make a drupal template out of it, or spruce up an existing custom template. I can handle all the more advanced stuff like custom php development and modules, although there will be opportunity to some of that stuff if I get busy enough with other work and need to hand it off. Maybe around 5 hrs/week to start, could be more. It should be ongoing work. Contact me here.

I have been a developer/consultant for over 10 years now, but have only recently begun to work with open source platforms and Drupal. Aside from the work that I do myself, I run my projects as a "virtual agency", maintaining a network of designers/developers, putting a teams together for each project. We need a fairly sophisticated web site developed for an organization we are creating, the International Sustainability Professionals Society. It is for people who are working to make a better future for coming generations. An example of a professional society site is http://ieee.org/. We don’t want to copy it, but the link will help convey the general needs.
I have researched the various CMSs and Drupal seems to come out on top. I have experimented with it and am impressed, but don't have the skill or time to do the entire site. As a result, we are looking for someone who knows Drupal well to configure the site which will need both core and contributed modules.

We are building a competitive online music radio community we are hoping will be more useful to discover music than anywhere else online, however thus far Drupal has slowed down our development dramatically since converting from Perl. We have been working on the project now for 2 years. We are now based in Portland, OR.
We are finally working on a major launch of a beta working with drupal developers abroad currently. However we are looking for skilled Portland, OR based developers now to take Beta to the next level as the difficulties are mounting doing this without face to face contact.

A personal/community workspace, or another look at social networking
I've been thinking about some of the specifics of creating a personal workspace within Drupal -- although my main area of interest is education, these thoughts have applications outside education -- these are some rough notes, and I'm curious to see/hear reactions about what I'm missing/overlooking. These notes are not intended to be comprehensive, but a starting point in a conversation about some specific functionality

To accomplish this, I was thinking about some integration between BuddyList (http://drupal.org/project/buddylist) and the ACL (http://drupal.org/project/acl) or NodeAccess (http://drupal.org/project/nodeaccess)module -- members of a user’s Buddylist can be used to form an access control list on a node by node basis-- I’m leaning toward the ACL module as I think a generalized API that can be used by other modules provides some advantages long term. However, was the ACL module designed to work primarily with roles, or with individual users?

The last meeting at Barley Mill was great fun (many pints of fun), but this time we are trying for a bit more of a 'workshop' format. We are taking over COR's side room and should have a projector which will enable us to demonstate different aspects of Drupal to the group.
