Quickstart Drupal Development Environment

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

Why spend time learning WAMP/XAMP/MAMP/Cygwin/etc, when websites are deployed on LAMP? Why hack up your Mac/Windows computer?

(Hopefully last) Quickstart 1.0 download post :-)

Honestly, the Quickstart 1.0 release has been rocky. I'd like to thank all of you for your patience. Any troubles you've had with this process, I've had x20. Torrent issues, tracker issues, 2 gig uploads failing at the end, etc.

The short version is that I updated and tested the download links again to solve a couple problems. I also created a Downloading FAQ.

New Quickstart HTTP downloads

Hurray! Quickstart can now be downloaded directly through HTTP.

Big thanks to Sil Kogelman for donating the bandwidth to enable this. After spending hours researching bittorrent clients and servers, this is a huge help. I can get back to working on Quickstart, and yall can get back to using it. This clears a big obstacle. Thanks Sil :-)

Here are the new URL's if you were having trouble with the bittorrent download:

Stuggling for speed. mysql slow

I'm using quickstart 0.8 for Drupal 6 under virtualbox 3.2.12 on a Vista box. It's a great solution, but I seem to have real speed issues, which I think may be mysql related. I even got myself a 80Gb SSD, which did help, but Drupal remains painfully slow. Everything else seems quick enough though.

I've been suffering for about 6 months now, but it would be so good to have quick responses during development. Any ideas where I should start looking?

I don't think I've changed anything from the 0.8 install except to set up my domains.

Quickstart as local server

Hi all!

I just set up quickstart, and bridged a second network card, so others can access VM inside the LAN.

How can they contribute? I've read Mike's post about not setting up an FTP. so... should I use a network shared folder? How can I define access control?

I don't want to set up a CVS or SVN.

Thanks in advance!

Moving A Local Site on Quickstart environment To The Web

I currently running the Quickstart environment on an Ubuntu setup. Wondering if there is recommended way to migrate a site to the web besides what I believe will work from prior drupal experience.

1) Turn off clean urls
2)Copy all my drupal files onto the web server via FTP
3) Export the database on my local machine then import it onto my web server using either Backup&migrate module or manually with php myadmin

Thank you in advance for any help!

Jason

Quickstart and Eclipse

Quickstart is wonderful, I just need a little help to get out of the gates.

I use Eclipse in many other non-PHP projects and would like to use Eclipse here, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to setup the project. It looks easy from the Youtubes to setup Netbeans, but I would rather use Eclipse as I am more comfortable with Eclipse.

I can easily create a site with the drush quickstart-create command, but do not know how to make an Eclipse project out of it.

Can someone help me with this?

Thanx

Julian

Quickstart 0.9.1 and Ubuntu 11.04: The scary untested update path!

Hi, I hope your finding Quickstart useful if you're getting this :-)

I am behind on my plans for QS 1.0, but that's life in open source. I did get a chance to test out the upgrade process in Ubuntu from 10.10 to 11.04.

Using other versions of PHP, Apache, MySQL, etc. w/ Quickstart

I've come across an issue where some contrib modules are not updated to work with PHP 5.3. The recommended solution is to downgrade to PHP 5.2.x.

I just started using Quickstart, Ubuntu, VirtualBox. (I know... a lot to learn.)

Anyway, I was curious if it is possible to either downgrade PHP to 5.2.x or install PHP 5.2.x alongside 5.3.x and switch between the two?

phpmyadmin times out and doesn't keep a query number to restart from

I'm using quickstart 0.8. I wasn't sure where to go for this question, so I thought I'd put it here. I'm trying to import an sql file using phpmyadmin. It's a large file so phpmyadmn times out. This usually isn't a problem. But for some reason phpmyadmin isn't keeping a query number to restart from, nor does it print that number to the screen. All it gives is the error saying the script times out and you can restart. I restart it but it seems as though the import starts at the beginning and ends up in the same place - the same table anyway.

Having horrible time with Quickstart

I've had really bad experiences with VirtualBox and data loss in the past. So I was really uneasy about using Quickstart with VirtualBox. I tried to convert it to a VMWare image with no luck. So finally I just took a fresh QS ova and started using it with a fresh VirtualBox 4.0.4 (hadn't used it since v.3.)

I spent all day yesterday getting setup, installing AFP, configuring Durpal, setting up SVN. I left the VM running all night and until now. I came back to it an hour ago and was immediately getting mysql errors.

The first error I got was on the site:

Awful permissions problems

I've been trying to install open atrium for at least 6 hours and cannot find a solution. There seems to be a permissions problem... Here's where I'm at:

I successfully installed a Ubuntu VM, and installed Drupal6. I then downloaded open atrium, copied it's contents into the example.php folder. I then went to the default folder and changed the settings.default file to settings.php, etc. i also created a files folder in the default folder. I went through the initial open Atrium installation BUT. It gave me these messages:

Configuring phpmyadmin to show Drupal 7 BLOB data

Hi,

This took me a bit to figure out and I thought I'd share it. Hopefully someone else finds it useful.

Drupal 7 serializes php data into long-blob fields, instead of just saving strings like in D6. This is great, because now D7 can store and retrieve arrays, not just strings. Hurray!

Unfortunately, out-of-the-box phpMyAdmin does not show this data as text, it just shows [BLOB - 14B]. Meh!

Drush code download failing.

Hi, is there something extra that I have to do to allow the drush quickstart-create command to be able to download the code?

Both quickstart 0.9 and 0.9.1 had the same issue for me in that nothing is being downloaded when executing the following command and there is no network activity during the attempt, even with the host's firewall well and truly off:
drush quickstart-create --domain=vale.dev --makefile=d7.make

Is there some workaround that I can put into place? Can I download the code myself directly?
