Quickstart Drupal Development Environment

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

Why spend time learning WAMP/XAMP/MAMP/Cygwin/etc, when websites are deployed on LAMP? Why hack up your Mac/Windows computer?

Want a demo? Check out the Youtube Channel

Install Acquia profile instead of standard Drupal with quickstart-create?

Anyone have any tips on how to go about telling quickstart-create to download and install Acquia's Drupal instead of standard Drupal? I can install distributions with quickstart-create but Acquia's Drupal is a profile, not a distribution.

Thanks,
Mickey

Apache restart when we enable APC

Hi all.

I use a CentOS server to deploy a Drupal site. I use ~50 drupal projects (> 100 modules) for this site. When I enable APC, the Web server often auto-restart.

My server's information:
+ CentOS
+ Apache 2.2.3
+ PHP 5.3.8
+ APC 3.1.9

  • If I disable APC, the error doesn't occur. The site work correctly.
  • In my local PC, I use ubuntu with Apache 2.2.14, PHP 5.3.2, APC 3.1.9 => The site work correctly without this error.

=> Could you help me?

Any Plans to support Drush 5?

Are there any plans to support Drush 5?

Given some of the drush 5 commands interfere with quickstart commands (ie. qd) it makes it difficult to upgrade and use some of the new features in drush 5 that are extremely helpful, like command completion as well as many others.

Does Anyone Have A Cron Recipe They Might Share?

I am totally bewildered by cron and all the well-intentioned help that is available on the first two pages of Google.

[Edit: Not so much, in the end. See below]

I've tried "Scheduled Tasks" and/or edited my crontab directly, changed the permissions on the test.sh scipt file so that anyone on the planet can have their way with it, all to no avail. All I ever get is "Permission Denied". The contained command is echo "hello world!" which I assume is not the source of the permission error.

The cron implementation appears to be Ubuntu default: no allow or deny files where I looked.

Quickstart & Pressflow

Hi folks,

I am pretty new to the quickstart camp, but so far I like it a lot. I was curious though if anyone has tried integrating pressflow into the quickstart VM? I wanted to see whether the integration of Varnish specifically caused any problems with the use of quickstart and the debugging tools? Also has anyone tried utilizing drush for installing the pressflow instance on quickstart? Any feedback would be welcomed.

Thanks,
Mitch

Moving from VirtualBox to Amazon's EC2

I'm excited about Quickstart, but would like to have some more direction about how to deploy this, not as a virtual instance on my desktop but on a server. I'm particularly interested in seeing how to move a customized instance over from my VirtualBox over to EC2.

There's a there's a thread here - https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/1944

Which point to places like:

Drush quickstart command line: create database with specific name

Hi Mike and all - first off thank you for Quickstart. It simplified things a lot and it was a great help.

I have a question on drush quickstart-create command line. I couldn't find any documentation on how to create a database with a name different from the domain name.

Example: domain name=example.dev database name=mydatabase1

Is this at all possible?

Thanks in advance

Quickstart and Ubuntu 11.10 - Don't upgrade

Hello,

I've been trying to keep Quickstart versions in sync with Ubuntu's release cycle, and now that Ubuntu 11.10 is out, we're up for a new version.

The short version is, I don't recommend upgrading to 11.10, without making a snapshot you can roll-back to.

It may be some time before a major new version of Quickstart comes out. For newer users, I might download all the updates for the 1.0 version, and turn off the "Upgrade to 11.10" button and release it as version 1.1.

Does A VirtualBox Quickstart Implementation Ever Get "Tired"?

I think I'm noticing that after say 60-100 hours of heavy use, my Quickstart environments seem to develop disk errors even though I've never seen a (virtual) disk more than 25% full.

How To Setup To Specify Which Site Is Visible Externally

I have a Quickstart Drupal 7 Quickstart implementation and a domain that is directed at my router IP address.

I have forwarded HTTP to my rather cool permanently assigned local IP address . I'm using a bridged adapter in promiscuous (allow VMs) mode.

Conference Organizing Distribution and Quickstart

My original post in the COD group: http://groups.drupal.org/node/178594

Essentially, I would like to test COD using Quickstart as my local dev environment. I have Quickstart installed successfully, and now, I'm trying to figure out how to use COD instead of the vanilla Drupal core to create a new site in Websites. I've read "drush help qc" for hints and searched drupal.org but haven't found anyone who has specifically used these two together.

Bridged Adapter Works - Except for Drupal Sites

I have a win 7 host and quickstart virtualbox setup with a bridged network. Incoming connections are routed to the virtualbox server and I can see, for example, the phpmyadmin login page from the web.

Unfortunately I cannot see example.dev from the web. I get "The requested URL /example.dev/ was not found on this server." and the by line "Apache/2.2.17 (Ubuntu) Server at 82.nnn.nnn.nnn Port 80" So it is clearly finding the web server but somehow the URL doesn't pass muster. There is no problem accessing example.dev from inside the virtualbox.

CRUD GUI Generation (Scaffold)

I have just spent way too much time trying to configure the Cato CRUD Generator http://www.catocrudgenerator.com onto Quickstart. Cato generates a basic CRUD GUI scaffold but it the docs are Mac-centric and it's D6, and it's too much for this newb to successfully port it to LAMP with D7.

If anybody else has any success with it I'd be very glad to hear of it. And if anyone knows a different GUI scaffold that's integrated with D7 (so not Drake, for example) I'd also be glad to here about that.

It strikes me as odd that more effort has not gone into this.

Quickstart 1.0 now mirrored by OSU's Open Source Lab!

Great news! Oregon State University's Open Source Lab has started mirroring the Quickstart downloads. This means:

1) no more need for bittorrent :-)
2) no more fretting about download bandwidth costs

I just changed the links on the Quickstart home page to point to OSU OSL's mirrors.

This is a great help to the project, and frees me up to focus on Quickstart. Special thanks to Killes, Jeff_S, and Lance at OSU, Michelle for introducing the project, and Sil for getting me off my ass to improve the download process :-)
