node.js

Since there is no content in English I decided to try my strength with posts in that language. My activity on the group died down a little because now I am discovering the power of node.js solution.

This idea seems absurd when the engine of a web browser is used as a tool for forming the foundation of network applications. Unbelievably :)

Overview - This project will focus on integrating node.js and DrupalChat modules functionality to Chatroom module. This project is planned for Drupal 7.

Description - This project will further enhance the Chatroom module and add the following features to it.

• Add support for different transport backends to chatroom module.
• Integrate current chatroom functionality with node.js.
• Integrate Drupalchat module functionality into chatroom module.

I want to integrate node.js or ajax push engine to Drupalchat and port it to Drupal 7 as part of GSoC 2011. I want to know the views of the Drupal community on this. Will it be helpful? If yes, then I will prepare a detailed outline and post it here. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

The chatroom module needs a D7 upgrade.

As maintainer of that module and the nodejs.module, i'd like to see chatroom ported to D7 and integrated with nodejs.

I'm happy to mentor the process.

The module is definitely not ready for prime-time, but its getting useful enough that i need more feedback to take it to the next level.

Ok....so our after-meeting discussion conversation got me to stay up into the wee hours of the night researching all the hype about node.js. Here is my breakdown, for anyone who cares lol:

the one sentence answer:
It is exactly what it says it is, server-side javascript.

the long answer lol:

I've now implemented a simple API for other modules to use Node.js functionality from Nodejs module.

Still pre-alpha code, but would love to get some more eyes on it, feedback more than welcome.
