Drupal NYC IRC channel

Please join us in IRC.

We've created a channel on IRC that is for our group. Others are welcome as well, but this is mainly for our NYC group. Sometimes your questions fall into the mix on regular Drupal IRC channels. This is why we've created our very own channel. We can get to know each other a bit more, when it comes time for our meetups we'll be more connected. So I invite everyone to join us.

server: irc.freenode.com
channel: #DrupalNYC

For Mac users I recommend Colloquy >> http://colloquy.info/downloads.html

Noneck + Dries + DrupalCampNYC

I you haven't seen this interview yet you should check it out. There are two reasons why this is important to New Yorkers
Reason #1) The interview is done by Noel Hildalgo (luckofseven.com). Noel was really instrumental in getting Drupal and Bar camps started in New York city as well as promoting the use of open source software throughout the city and region. Of course now he is doing these same things around the world.

Reason #2) Vanity.. Dries is wearing our shirt!

New York City Drupal Development Firms

Hi,

I represent 2 national business publications, and we're issuing an RFP to web development firms for a large scale, social-networking project. We are specifically looking for development firms -- not freelancers. New York City area is preferred, but not required.

If you know of any firms who have experience implementing Drupal for social software projects, please contact me immediately.

Thanks

looking for help creating a drupal site for NYC's teachers....

Sorry, drupalistas, but this is a goodwill project for NYC teachers. Coquille, my good friend/teacher/activist wants to create a really really simple site to teach other NYC teachers how to recycle. By law the schools are to recycle, but the school system refused to educated nor provide supplies for recycleing. So enter my friend, armed with a dozen or fellow teachers to do data input and create content. They need something simple that will be functional and hopefully get a bit of press (IE... free advertisement for you.)

I'm just the connector here... So please be nice. ;)

Noel

I'm looking to create a website to encourage recycling in NYC schools. I'd like the site to start with teacher and student-generated content created by our school, with the idea that our resources/recycling system could be easily replicated in other schools. Eventually, other schools could join in authoring content. Currently, few schools are recycling in NYC, which is totally frustrating because it's the law and, more importantly, the right thing to do.

Check out RootsCamp NYC, 18 Nov....

Hey'a NYC Drupalers! I know many of you have helped out in campaigns or know a thing or two about the new media we're dealing in. So why not check out RootsCamp NYC!

So many people at all levels are discovering amazing innovations in organizing, using technology to make a difference, and adapting to newmedia habits. It doesn't make sense for a post-election debrief to exclude the local union activists, precinct captains, heads of a local parties, or other activists who are kicking ass in a bold new way. That's why we want you to attend Rootscamp NYC on Saturday, 18 November 2006.

I know it's a little odd advertising an event that needs a venue, but RootsCamp NYC needs some 'roots lovin. We need 4 - 5 rooms that can host 25 - 30 people. If you know of anyone in the city who has access to a location that's close to public transportation (Union Hall, University, Office Space, etc.), please forward this message with a personalized note and asking them to call me.

Using Drupal to promote NYC legistation

Only local images are allowed. Last month, the NYPD attempted to change the rules on sidewalk usage and the right to freely assemble.

http://assembleforrightsnyc.blogspot.com/2006/08/response-to-nypd-withdr...

Through a successful grassroots campaign, we were able to convince the NYPD to rescind their rule's change, but the fight is not over! This month, we will be launching a campaign petitioning the city council to adopt legislation protecting our right to freely assemble and speak freely.

I am wondering if you are interested in helping us. We need a network of designers, programmers, and bloggers to promote our message and run our website. Starting small we need a designer to create graphics, an admin to run our Drupal site, and a network admin or programmer to help us institute a broadcast SMS system. On Wed - 13 September, we will be launching a basic site to promote our draft legislation. Once our campaign is launched we need bloggers to promote our message.

If you are interested please email Noel Hidalgo at noel(a/t)nonecknoel.com.
