New Podcast Series on Online Church Community

Hey Everyone...
Just wanted to point out the latest series over at the Geeks & God Podcast. We're currently in the middle of a series called "forming online community" in which we're talking about building a internet based, interactive community for your church or ministry. Currently, we've got 4 episodes online with 2 episodes to go, which will release in the next 2 weeks (yielding a 6 part series)...

Of course, we talk about Organic Groups but we also cover a much wider spectrum of what it means to create an online community.

Check the series out (in reverse chronological order) at: http://geeksandgod.com/podcast-series/forming-online-community

Hope this helps some folks think about creating online community at their church!

Walking Through A New Church Install

I am making my first effort to use Drupal and am building a new church Website.

I am used to simple hardcoding in HTML and have avoided automated Website
apps because I disliked the cluttered code they produced.

The goal here is to build a site that multiple leaders in the church may help to
keep updated and which will facilitate staff, leader, and small group communications.

The prior contracted person failed to produce something usable and the site is now
many months late on delivery - I need to get some pictures and a calendar and
contact info up quickly.

Help With Local church Conversion to Drupal

Heya gang!

So Calvaryaustin.org is going to be moving off of CMS made easy. not including their fron page the entire site is in flash and iframes.
It was really done poorly. I have been tasked with migrating to Drupal! I am so new to drupal and really could use some help.

For instance the front page is pade up of a header main body and three unique graphics that change out.

Not sure how I would template this correctly in drupal.
If you have a suggestion take a look at www.calvaryaustin.org and give me some advice.

New Drupal Church IRC Channel

Hey All!
Many of you may know that mfer and I run the Geeks and God Podcast. In the past we did a 10 part series on building church websites using drupal...there was HUGE interest, and lots of questions. People ask lots of questions about drupal on our website, but I figured I'd offer a more "live" way to talk about building church sites with drupal.

So, today I created the IRC room: #drupal-churches (on irc.freenode.net)

Hopefully we can get a little community going in there. I'll be hanging in there anytime I'm behind the keyboard. See y'all there!

Christian Collaboration Community and civicrm hosting for churches and christian groups

Hi Glad to find a churches group on here,

I just wanted to introduce myself and introduce a project I am working on. well I am Craig Bertrand...and this is the project...

We (The Missions Organization I work with) are starting a Christian Collaboration Community that will have the option to host civicrm for churches and other Christian groups and we will be trying to make civicrm "just work" for churches. We figure this solution should work for churches with no techie folks, or for those who just dont want to worry about maintaining a server and drupal/civicrm core.

Churches Group Categories

When I created this group, I really didn't expect to see 84 subscribers listed. I confess that I haven't been nearly as involved in this group as I should have been. There are a number of contributing factors in that, but I won't bore you. However, since this has become a rather popular place (and because ebrittweb suggested it a while back) I'd like to make it a little easier to use by adding some custom taxonomy. Before I do that, though, I'd like to get some opinions from the group on how to organize the vocabularies and terms.

Church Taxonomy Examples

I am wondering what an effective taxonomy for churches would be (and if there is a common taxonomy among churches). What taxonomy structure are you using for you church's drupal site?

New Design Launched

I just wanted to make a quick post to let everyone here know we've launched our new web design for our church site. We're starting to work toward implementing more group collaboration and making the web site a repository of information about the various LIFE groups and such.

The new site is at: http://www.newhopeks.org/

A more detailed post about what I plan to do with the site is as: http://www.contentment.org/2006/12/03/new_hope_church_new_design

Cheers.

Hello!

Hi. I have created a website for a church in the UK using Drupal about 6 months ago, but have just found this group. The website is at www.abovebarchurch.org.uk. We built it using Drupal 4.7. Its a pretty straight forward site, but we hope that it will grow over the next few years to be a really useful resource for helping the church community grow and deepen. Hopefully we can help each other to do this.

Looking forward to speaking to you more in the future!

Chris
