Issue with customising a department vsite's home page in OpenScholar D7

Hi there,
I have latest openscholar + drupal 7.31 installation. I have the main site and 5 department sites and many more personal sites. I need to display a view generated block on the main site and not on the rest of the vsites. Currently view created block is appearing on the front page of the main site + front page of all the department and personal vsites. Can anyone provide some help on "How to display blocks on a specific vsite's front page but not on others" .

I have been stuck with this issue for a long time. Any help much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Need help creating a GMap Block using Views

I am hoping someone will be able to help me create a GMap block using Views.

Essentially what I want to be able to do is to take the Google Map that is shown when you click on the "User Locations" link and put it in a Block that can be added to any page (specifically in my case to the Home Page).

I have tried to use Views to do this but I cannot get the Content : Location option to appear in the Views list of Relationships. I expect there are other gaps in my knowledge but so far this is as far as I can get.

Custom Home Pages

There are lots of ways to create a nice homepage using your theme (page-front.tpl.php) or using modules like views, panels or front page (http://drupal.org/project/front).

My question is what kind of techniques do you tend to use for a rich homepage on a larger site? Is it all custom php in the theme or a combination of modules & custom php? Blogs and portfolio sites don't require much customization for an effective homepage, but what about sites that have a richer homepage that shows off the content of the site?

How to lock anonymous users out of the site, give them access to just one home page, and present the real home page upon login?

Hi folks --

I'm building a site where I want anonymous users to access none of the site's real content until they log in.

However, when a user first comes to the site prior to login, I'd like them to have a decent page telling them to log in, and where they can see the login block.

My current method includes:

-- the Taxonomy Access module (so that I can use a category tag to specify that one of the pages will in fact be viewable by un-authenticated people, that's the page I'll make my home page for the not-yet-logged-in people)
