FFMPEG & Media Mover Qs
FFMPEG doesn’t seem to be working for me which also means Media Mover isn’t working, and apparently hasn’t since DOM were here to do the install, I’ve been sorting other issues so hadn’t looked at it until last week.
ffmpeg was actually at /usr/local/bin/ffmpeg not /usr/bin/ffmpeg but this didn’t resolve the issue; is this because this points to ffmpeg on the webserver and not on the encoder, and if so what should the link be?
Other potentially pertinent info:
I couldn’t find the vhook libraries (so that field on the ffmpeg wrapper page is empty).
Ubuntu LTS 8.04 FFMPEG installation instructions
Before I forget to post this, these are the instructions I've been following to setup FFmpeg on Ubuntu:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=786095
These instructions work off the latest SVN copy of ffmpeg, which is a necessity if you want to be able to get any support (first response to any ffmpeg troubleshooting question will be "are you using the latest copy from SVN?")
There are definitely better ways to compile it, but this is a great start -- so anyone with the expertise feel free to suggest improvements.

I feel like I'm posting too often to the group, but there is so much information we are trying to share. Since there is a conversation about FFmpeg on the ACM Announce list and it came up in a call with Austin, I thought I should try to get some of what we've been doing with FFmpeg posted. Most of the discussion on the ACM list has been about applications that wrap FFmpeg up with a graphic interface. That's a great introduction, but to really leverage FFmpeg the PEG community is going to have start developing some collective knowledge about FFmpeg's command line configuration options.
