Welcome to the Bellingham Drupal Users' Group!
The BhamDUG is currently planning its meetups to talk about Drupal, to contribute to regional Drupal events like PNW Drupal Camp, and have some Drupal Fun. During BhamDUG meetups, we showcase modules and projects, share tips and tricks, and answer nagging questions about Drupal.
This is a geographic Drupal User Group, meant primarily for planning local Drupal related events and meetups, and for supporting users locally.
Don't know much about Drupal yet? That's okay. New Drupal people are welcome!
Linux on PPC Mac
This post is not directly Drupal-related, but I am trying to install Ubuntu Linux on an old G4 PowerPC Mac, to use as a Drupal server. I can't get the Mac to see the Ubuntu disc when I try to boot from CD. If you are even semi-knowledgeable about this I would appreciate any guidance you might be able to provide. Thanks.

At the last Bham Drupal meeting, I had a little conversation with one of the attendees (hi Fred!) about what niches there are in the Drupal community that have lots of opportunities in them.
And now I've stumbled upon a blog post at cyrve (yes, the small Drupal data migration company just acquired by Acquia) about just this very thing, so I thought I'd share it:

Just a quick note, Bellingham Drupal Meetup happens tomorrow (Monday, July 11th) and we hope more folks can make it! We have invited the consultant who is working with WWU on our home page redesign project, Todd Tomlinson of Server Logic, to come to our meeting. Todd is the author of two Apress Drupal books, Pro Drupal 7 Development and Beginning Drupal 7. We are looking forward to having him join us for dinner and a Drupal discussion.
More information on our Drupal Meetup group can be found on the Meetup page: http://www.meetup.com/bhamdrupal/

This is the monthly meeting of the Bellingham Drupal Users Group. We organize and publicize the meeting on Meetup.com in order to attract others in the community who are interested in Drupal but not yet on Drupal.org.
Signups are "closed", but the meeting is open! Please RSVP at our Meetup site so we can count attendees. More info, including meeting location and RSVP link, there: http://meetup.com/bhamdrupal/

We moved our third meeting to a restaurant, and had the largest group so far, sharing good food and a pitcher of Stella, and having a lively conversation about (what else?) Drupal. Attendees for this meeting were Jennifer Dixey, Warren Keuffel, Emilie Nouveau, Jakob Perry, John Sechrest, and David Sienko.

Read moreGoogle Summer of Code 2011
Hi Hamsters!
Google Summer of Code is an effort by Google to create space and time for mentoring and great projects to emerge based on student work. For the past few years there has been a concerted effort by Drupalfolk to get Drupal-oriented projects into GSoC, and this effort has been very successful. GSoC is now gearing up for the 2011 version, and ideas are needed. So are mentors.
What great things would you like Drupal to do that it can't do now? (Or that it could do better?)

I notice that there is a Drupal Meetup this thursday in Vancouver/Surrey.
You can see the meetup notice here:

I wonder if there is any interest in going up to events like this in Vancouver or going down to Drupal events in Seattle from time to time?
Any thoughts on how we might step up the conversation about drupal a bit thru cross fertilization/

We had our second meeting on a chilly, icy night on January 11, 2011. Thanks to all who braved the cold and slippery ground to get to the meeting (and especially to Warren Keuffel, who tried to make it but couldn't safely attend because of the weather and parking problems).
In attendance:
Jennifer Dixey - Drupal Developer and LMS Support, WWU
John Sechrest - Executive Director, Northwest Innovation Resource Center
Andrew Shaffer - Founder and CTO, NimbleMachine
David Sienko - Media Developer, Tulalip Lushootseed Project

Read moreAccess to Drupal @ Bellingham Linux Users Group, Thursday November 4th 7PM
I'll be giving a presentation on comparing Microsoft Access / Open Office Base at the monthly BLUG meeting held at BTC in Room D5 on Thursday, November 4th at 7pm.
It'll cover the differences between the applications, and why drupal is usually the better choice in most cases.
Some items:
Portability (using mamp and deploying several drupal instances locally)
Multi-user support
Leveraging CCK and Views to work like forms and reports
Cost
Ease of setting it up. (No code required!)
Let's Meet!
Howzabout an early November Bellingham Drupalers' meetup?
Purpose: Eat pizza, talk Drupal, reminisce about the grand time we had in Vancouver (or find out about it, for those who couldn't partake).
Speaker: You, maybe? Doing something with Drupal you'd care to share?
Time: 6:30ish?
Day of the Week: Um, Thursday? (Maybe the 2nd Thursday? Those of us who go to Van Drupal meetings as well - or would like to - could then get to have a Drupal get-together every two weeks.) In November, the 2nd Thursday is the 11th.
If others are game for this I'll find a meeting space at WWU.

Greetings Drupal Community!
It’s exciting times for Drupal in the Pacific Northwest. Planning for the October 2010 Pacific Northwest Drupal Summit in Vancouver, Canada is progressing nicely. Want to find out more, keep on reading!
Background
The process started in earnest last year with a call for participation. From there we established an Organizing Committee and starting laying down the foundation for the conference. Although I was the one that kicked things off I’m extremely pleased to announce that Vanessa Turke of ImageX Media took on the role of Organizing Committee chair and is doing a wonderful job. The Organizing Committee would also like to acknowledge the support we’re getting from last year’s Seattle organizing committee.
