I'm setting up a Project Mercury style server on Linode and have run into a few problems / possible inaccuracies. I made one correction to the wiki but then decided it'd be better to list my changes here for vetting before moving them into the wiki. I'm using an Ubuntu 9.10 server.

Installing basic packages failed because apt-get couldn't find libapache2-mod-rpaf. I added the University repositories to fix that. I added a another step in the basic startup to uncomment the universe repositories.

How to -not run out of memory- on solr

Prior to installing Tomcat/solr ,

I was using these settings.
Php - 64mb
APC - 128mb

2 Drupal installations , 1xD5 and 1xD6.

Memory usage always hovered around 200-300 of 512mb.

After i installed Tomcat & solr , I frequently see memory usage going as high as nearly 500 of 512
and my solr keeps crashing .

I am not too sure about the part on solr crashing , cause tomcat is still up but Drupal complains that it can't connect to solr and the localhost:port/solr is dead as well.

I tried limiting memory usage by adding a
setenv.sh inside apache-tomcat-6.0.18/bin

My name is Joost Pluijmers and working currently in order of Dynamic Solutions. I have been devoloping with and in Drupal for the past 4 years and never really got involved, thats something I would like to change.

Before we start I would like to set some kind of situational impression. Were gonna be talking about using Drupal use in a average Joe way, not in cluster configurations just one fysical machine running the webserver and database. The way small to medium buisnesses have and will configure their drupal websites in the future.

I need someone help me for config drupal 6.15 for hight performance on apache server.Now i run site on VPS hostgator with 1,3G ram.So now i need everybody show me some files config:etc:
1.my.cnf
2.httpd.conf
3.Cache for PHP
4.mysql turning...
5.what mod of apache can disable?
I need very detail for that file to understand.can you show me for this?
And what module should i turn off to have best performance?i hear someone tell :statics module...?List modules i used in attach.

A few questions about pressflow/mercury

I just installed Mercury, and I see these 3 pressflow modules. Should I enable them? Why are they not enabled by default?

I decided that my pressflow folder should also be in ebs, so I moved them to a different folder. I only changed etc/apache2/sites-available/default to point to the new location, is there anywhere else I should change?

Search Results Speed

Hello,

I was in charge of a pretty big search and photo project that is currently running. I'm running into some issues with the search results pages and was hoping for some suggestions. We're running Drupal 6 with apachesolr.

We have multiple servers; lb1 (squid), www1 (apache pre-fork/memcache/solr), app01 (memcache/ftp) and db1 (mysql).

Pressflow causing form.inc validation error?

Lately, I've been having some performance issues on a high traffic Drupal 5 site I maintain. Eventually, I'd like to get on Pressflow 6 with Varnish and Memcache, but as an interim step I decided to drop PF5 on our staging site to see what would happen. As it's supposed to be drop in drop out compatible, it seemed worth a shot. After doing some JMeter performance testing, it looked like there were marginal gains to be had with just PF over stock Drupal. Everything seemed ok, so I decided to push to production while I installed Varnish on the staging site and got into configuring it there. That's where my problems began.

What' recipe should i choose for best performance?

I read and now i think i must choose some recipe to have best performance for my vps.After some one have benmark with serveral way:

Still Varnish beat out nginx by about 18% in my personal quick and dirty testing. Off the top of my head, and without looking up my numbers, it was:
