Boost and IE

I have Boost installed on a few sites, and am really pleased with the huge difference it makes. But I cannot for the life of me get any version of IE to serve the cached pages.
I found in the issue queue a notice to disable RFC2616 compliance, which I have done to no effect (yes I generated new rules and changed the .htaccess).
Is there another setting to enable/disable? What else can I do? I have seen boost tags on ie before (just not my sites) so I know it is possible...
Any help is appreciated!

Mercury 1.0 Released

Drupal using 100% CPU

Hitting any link or doing any operation on the site and Top shows the server using 95 to 100% of the CPU to serve the www-data.

Firstly I am not a developer, I am just a photographer with an idea for a site, which because I couldn't find any local cms developers who would build it on Drupal, I started learning on my own. For the moment this is not about high performance, its about ANY performance!

3 Memcache questions

In this group many people recommend using the memcache module for authenticated users. But what does exactly this module? Putting the core cache tables in memory? Or something else?
And what’s the difference between using memcache.inc or memcache.db.inc?
Is there is a good doc for using memcached with Drupal?

jmeter scripts to test server performance

We've found jmeter to be very useful in determining server performance, but it can be a bit daunting to get started. I've uploaded a couple files that might help to our launchpad project (http://launchpad.net/pantheon/jmeter). They're fairly simple now but I'm very interested in ideas/code/suggestions to make these much better at testing day-to-day performance of a drupal/pressflow server.

aggregated css/js 404 prevention module

Problem: If the aggregated css/js file doesn't exist then drupal is loaded, looking for it; a 404 for the file is usually the result.
Solution: Have a lookup table pairing the old file to the new one, returning the new aggregated file in the process.

Create 2 menu hooks
file_directory_path() . '/css/%'
file_directory_path() . '/js/%'

Google analytics are... showing not all visitors. Can this be related to some of performance module?

Hi,

Have a site with:
-CacheRouter with db caching
-APC on the server, but not used with CacheRouter
-Boost with default-agressive settings, crowler enabled
-JS minify + gzip
-CSS gzip
-block cache module enabled
-"Normal" drupal cache
-Paged are gzipped by drupal
-GA code is in footer

-Google Analytics module was used with "cache locally" and without - but no change.

-All the internal Google Analytics indicators is showing that everything is ok, some stats is available.

-JS minify+gzip is enabled, but I clearly see the .js file, which is accesible.

serving from cache even if the backend is down

If apache or mysql goes down, or you accidentally upload bad code to your drupal site, or you put your site into maintenance mode, apache gives varnish a 5xx. Varnish knows better than to cache this page, but it will serve it if the object grace has expired. Fortunately, varnish has the ability to reset the grace and serve the "good" page from cache until apache returns a non-5xx on that page.

I'm presenting a talk on Drupal "Performance and Scalability" at the March Meetup for the Sydney Drupal Users Group. In preparation I have produced a series of articles on various aspects of Drupal and the LAMP stack. I have tried to cover the field as best I can. Some of the material is from my own experience but a lot of it is from discussions which have taken place in this group. The articles are at a fairly high level in parts but do attempt to fill in the detail by providing links to other articles which do a good job of discussing the area.

Stability Problem with Mercury & Jaunty

I had a soft lockup this morning on my 32 bit mercury instance (ami ami-9f9f70f6). No use of XFS at all. Rebooting failed with more soft lockups. I've appended the initial error output, fwiw.

As I searched for the issue, I ran into the following from Eric Hammond. The kernel we use sounds like the same one - is it?
