High Performance

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

This group is dedicated to solutions and approaches for high traffic, high performing Drupal sites. As such, it will deal with a lot of information around the rest of a typical Drupal "stack" -- the operating system, web server, database, and PHP tweaks that combine to support the Drupal application.

This is not a support channel or a place to post bug reports.

If you think you have found a bug, use the issue queue for the appropriate project.

If you need support, see http://drupal.org/support for options.

APC + MultiSite - Looking for Configuration Help

I have a dedicated server currently hosting more than a dozen sites running from a single install of drupal (MultiSite).

I have installed APC on the server to attempt to alleviate this include overhead. My current configuration looks like

[apc]
apc.enabled = 1
apc.include_once_override = 1
apc.shm_size = 32M
apc.stat = 0
apc.ttl = 0

The issue is when I install the packaged apc.php to one of the site's document root, I only ever see something like below

Extremly poor Views2 performance on 30 exposed filters

I`m trying to upgrade our hotel booking site. Each hotel has several characteristics, so I put them in integer CCK fields. After that I created a view with about 30 exposed filters according all the hotel fields.
After I put the site live (~1500 visitors per day), the mysql server went down almost immediately. The problem is crazy sql queries that views module makes. For example, http://pastebin.com/gxNTzwuR . It`s the real user query I`ve took from the query log.
I`ve added indexes to all that 'content_field_xxx' tables (field_xxx_value) - still no luck.

Node statistics for busy sites with Pixel Ping

Once you put a Drupal app behind layers of external cache, the idea of "most popular" or "most viewed" becomes hard to compute. Boost's excellent boost_stats.php callback tries solves this in some situations by doing a partial bootstrap to access the DB and increment node_counter. But there are at least two potential complications to boost_stats.php with external cache.

Looking for feedback on hosting 100 plus sites

I'm in charge of 100 plus drupal sites in use by the Purdue University Professional Writing program. We host sites used by instructors teaching multiple courses in PW as well as this Fall introductory composition. Currently, we are using a single multisite install to host all of these sites, with all the courses running off the main code. We're using Storm On Demand hosting, with their intro level server, which is one core on an intel quad core, with 2gb of ram.

Adding or dropping index on large myISSAM table == slow boat to China!

Has anybody seen this: http://lists.mysql.com/mysql/202489 ? Like Inspector Renault in "Casablanca", if this is true, I am shocked!

I'm upgrading a Drupal 5 site with > 19M business listings to Drupal 6. The url_alias table has twice that many rows. ./modules/system.install takes several passes over this table, and what should have taken a few hours at most is taking days!

Micro Amazon EC2 AMI with nginx, php5.3.3 and sqlite

Amazon has announced micro instance, which is cheaper. The sluggish apache2 stack may not work well on this limited resource. So I am planning to install drupal on nginx and sqlite, with custom compited lite php.

converting a site to Pressflow

I am preparing to migrate a site with over 19 million nodes and a 2500 term taxonomy vocabulaty from Drupal 5 to 6. While reading up, I have discovered Pressflow and want to consider it. How do I proceed with the upgrade? Can I use the same strategy that I and others have used to migrate sites from Drupal 5 to 6, copying the database, then replacing the Drupal core files with Pressflow's core files? Or will that create a hopelessly broken site to pick up pieces for?

Amazons new Micro Instances ($0.02 per hour) require EBS boot

This is pretty exciting Amazon has announced a Micro Instance for only $0.02 an hour with 613mb RAM and up to 2 EC2 Compute Units. I know a lot of people were using other cloud computing providers due to the lower price point so this potentially opens Amazon up to a much larger market.

Only problem is I just tried to launch a Pantheon instance on it and realised the new instance size requires an EBS Bootable instance.
