Upgrade discussion
We had a small group at our meetup in Lawrence last night, but an excellent discussion.
We talked about different upgrade methods:
- The normal way, where you disable all modules, remove sites/all/modules, replace D6 files with D7 files (except for sites folder), and then run update.
- The drush way, with drush site-upgrade
- Starting fresh with a D7 site and importing
Reminder re meetup on Feb. 7
This is just a reminder that we are meeting at the Free State Brewery in Lawrence at 6:30 on Feb. 7. If you know you're coming and haven't said so, it would help me out if you'd respond.
I reserved the private room at the brewery, which holds 20 people, but if we have less than 8 they will give the second table to another group. I'd really like for us to hog up the whole room, even if we don't fill it.
Let me know!

The upgrade path from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7 is very challenging. This meeting doesn't have a speaker, but instead will be an informal discussion of the various methods and pitfalls of upgrading. Whether you have done it several times, are in the middle of the process, or are thinking about it, we'd like to hear what you have to say.
Plus, good food and beer.
Drupal Deconstruction Meet-up at VML
Joe Bartlett will be discussing his work on the US pro cycling challenge website http://www.usaprocyclingchallenge.com He'll talk about some of the challenges they faced in building the site, in theming, site building and custom development.
Anyone else who wants to do the same for one of their sites is more than welcome. We hope to generate a good discussion around best practices from doing these deconstruction exercises.
Please respond to this thread if you would like to show talk about a site you have built!
We'll be meeting at VML offices (downtown airport) at 6pm

At the last meetup in KC, at the very end as the meeting was breaking up, several people mentioned that Feeds works as a way to upgrade a site from D6 to D7. I was unable to make it work. Have any of you actually done it, or is your knowledge theoretical? Documentation is thin on this topic, and I would very much like to make it more helpful.

Hey folks, I realize we had been operating under the assumption there is a DrupalKC meet-up the last Tuesday of each month, but it isn't happening this month (tonight - 11/29). Reason for that being... i haven't gotten off my butt to organize anything. That said, if folks were had made plans to come in... i can work something out, just respond to this thread and let me know. I certainly don't want to slow any momentum we have as a group. Also... i'd love to do one early December, before holiday madness.

Lawrence, KS meetup
I wonder how I missed this group! No wonder I can never find out when the KC meetups are. Now I'll know. (Thank you, Scott.)
A colleague and I are also trying to organize a meetup in Lawrence. At this point we don't have times or locations, because we'd like to find out if anyone is interested. (Plan for 4 people or 40?)
If you are interested, respond here. I'd like to know what times work for people, e.g., if you work in Lawrence would you be able to come to a brown bag lunch? Early evening?
Thanks,
Mary (mollyavalon)

It's time for the monthly Drupal user group meet-up. Last month had a good discussion around Drupal hosting and Aegir. HaloFX continued that discussion on the DrupalKC forums (http://www.drupalkc.org/topic/amazon-ec2-s3). I'm hoping we can have a quick presentation on that at the meeting as well.
Another idea for topics is to Bring up existing sites on the screen and discuss approaches for building out features on the site.
Please post on the forum with your ideas for topics you would like to present on or hear someone else present on.

Hello Drupal is a course designed for people who have a general idea of how content management systems work, but little or no Drupal experience. The goal is to throw you over that first bump in the Drupal learning curve and get you off and running building your first site.
By the end of this course, you will be able to...
Explain how a typical site is built in Drupal, and explain the page-model in Drupal.
Use Drupal specific terminology such as fields, views, node, block, page.
Understand how to build sites the "Drupal way"

Let's do lightning talks at our meeting next Tuesday. Essentially, that means folks will volunteer to give a 5 to 10 minute demo on anything Drupal. No presentation materials required but we will have a big screen you can hook your laptop up to if you want to do a demo. You can talk about a module you like, an issue you had building a site, an idea for a drupal module project etc.
