Hi all, by way of intro I have been sitting on the side of this group for a month or two now watching for some events to attend to build my knowledge of Drupal. I am a long time web developer and web manager in Brisbane (currently working in a customer experience management role) and have only recently discovered Drupal, but I think it's very exciting as a platform for building complex sites.
I have been feeling my way into it by converting a five year old PHPBB forum site (http://www.bikesonshow.com) and am now working on a travel and tourism site. It's a good way to keep my web development skills up while I am not working directly in the field.
On the new site (which is a private crusade in my spare time) I want to be able to display thumbnail galleries across the top of selected content pages (e.g. in a pre-content block) in a book (a different gallery for each topic in the book) which will include all the images used in that topic (may cover 5-10 web pages). I don't care if I have to do it manually, but I don't want the images to appear as content nodes in their own right if I can avoid it.
I've been able to teach myself how to create various types of galleries in nodes, and the one that seems closest to what I need is using "attach images" and "lightbox2". But for some weird reason I can't figure out how to either (a) put a gallery node into a block, or (b) add "attach images" to the block dialogue. I don't do much code level customisation, by the way, although I can hack when pushed.
This seems like such a simple thing to do, but I can't find any tutorials or videos or even book topics that cover how to do it. So I am hoping someone might be kind enough to either explain it, or provide a feature import I can use to create it (assuming someone might already have done it elsewhere).
Is anyone able to give me some help on how to approach this?
Many thanks, Tony

Update on progress so far
I have been doing some more work on this today and have got a bit further. I can display image nodes with a specific taxonomy term in a block, but they have a label of "image:" alongside them and they don't have a Lightbox view (ie, not clickable at all) at the moment. See the screenshot for details of how I've set up the view to get this far. I feel like I am really close to what I need by just can't quite get there...
Also, I am still stuck with the thumbs being image nodes, which I wanted to avoid if at all possible as this will become a very large website with a lot of nodes to manage.
