Trust metrics and reputation basis

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

I'm not deeply versed in the Drupal ecology, so please excuse if this is misdirected! My interest in the Guilds movement (and Voting Systems) is for something with wider applicability, namely a generic reputation system for community sites. I would like an implementation that could handle varied protocol for awarding 'merit' to users based on feedback on their contributions.

Perhaps I am just not aware of current solutions, but what I have seen is more of the 'do-ocracy' version where user points accrue for simple volumetric purposes, or votes raise visibility of some users/content. Somehow tying or corroborating these elements together, and possibly a 'trust economy' of limited credit award totals, seems like an obvious leap with significant relevance to the discussion of Guilding and voting systems.

Or is it seen as too difficult/limiting to codify such a system with open user base? Too political? Curious if anyone could summarize the community sense around these questions, as I'm sure it must be in other minds and discussions. Thank you, and I hope to find connections between this project and my efforts to develop community action networks with reputation/merit factoring for filters and trust qualifications.

I concur with the need for advanced reputation abilities in community networks, and am also curious about what ideas Drupal-ers have had in that regard.

Userpoints?

Could you just use the userpoints module to handle reputation? I think you can create different types of point categories in userpoints and one of those could be reputation. Then you can use rules (or other methods) to add/subtract from the reputation category.

This seems like a good possibility for what I'm suggesting; although it would be great to have a few standardized systems/presets for communities to adopt, and what better place to establish and refine than as a facet of the Guilds program? I think this is something that has wide usage potential, and all the more so if carefully designed for a handful of scenarios. I know Drupal is about leaving your options open, but this kind of add-on prescription for/from guild-like clusters could help define some strong "best practices" in the area, and make for recognizable, even interoperable, results. For instance, it would be great if a 'federation' of guilds relied on common metrics/rules. But maybe in this context a mechanical rating system is not appropriate? Curious to hear any other opinions re: Drupal 'mastery' tracking.

I agree that if you're trying

I agree that if you're trying to build a reputation-like system that spans 'guilds' then you'll want some standardization. Sounds like a great implementation of userpoints + rules + features. :-)
