Hello! My name is Christina and I just moved to Hanover, NH from North Carolina. I noticed there are DUG meetups in Portsmouth, Manchester and Keene (which I'd like to attend). But I'm wondering if there are ever any in the Upper Valley area? Or if there would be any interest if I were to organize one at some point down the line?
Thanks -- looking forward to meeting NH and VT Drupallers!

In the works...
Hi Christina - we're a small group of Drupalers at the Human Capital Institute in Wilder, VT. We know of others in the area, and were planning to get a user group going - great to know other people are interested too. We were thinking of starting off once a month - maybe the last Wednesday evening of every month?
Two of our guys are going to DrupalCon, so they may be able to talk about that at the end of March. We're also looking at venues - it might make sense to make the first meetup a more social event - I think Murphy's in Hanover has a downstairs room that we could snag. Any venues at Darthmouth you may have access to?

VDUG
There has been somewhat active VDUG group - http://groups.drupal.org/vermont but it's been hard to keep a momentum up. There are several people doing Drupal work in the Montpelier, Burlington, and Rutland areas. There are probably some more, but I not remembering at the moment.

Welcome to Hanover!
There's a small smattering of drupal developers in and around the Hanover area (rumor has it Dartmouth has a couple developers too), but as of yet there isn't a UVDUG. I'm a Professional Services guy for Acquia, and have a pretty erratic travel schedule, but I'd totally be in to helping out with getting a UVDUG together. Hanover/Leb is a pretty common center to much of vermont & NH, so it would be a decent location albeit far away.
I know of a couple companies in the Centerra complex that might be willing to host a user group meeting. If putting a group together sounds like a worthwhile option, I'll rattle a few cages and see what I can find!

Looking for Drupal
Thanks for the prompt Christina
I am new to Drupal. Put me on the list for a Drupal meet-up. Montpelier is not to far but Burlington is best.

I'm in Vermont myself, and
I'm in Vermont myself, and have been to a meeting in Burlington before. I'd love to attend another local Drupal meetup. I know another fellow who would also probably come, RJ Static.
I'd be interested in meeting
I'd be interested in meeting in the Hanover area. I'm in Rutland and I've been to the Burlington meetup (good people :), but it's a little far to travel for a day trip.
Thanks for all the responses
Thanks for all the responses -- it's great to hear that there are other Drupalers in the area. I'd definitely be up for a once a month meetup, even if it were just discussing Drupal over drinks sometimes.
Regarding venues, I could probably find space at Dartmouth. Only tricky thing is, Dartmouth doesn't officially support Drupal at this time. I'm brand new here, so I don't want to ruffle any feathers.
Next step?
Looks like we have enough interest, and I know of several more interested people that may not be in this group. Everyone OK with Wednesday 3/30 for the first meeting? We can figure out the location in the meantime - I'm sure something will become available. We have several options available, in addition to Chris'.
Christina - if there are no objections to the date - will you post an event to the NH & VT groups?

Wednesday 3/30 sounds good to me -- for a topic, shall we plan on hearing from folks who went to DrupalCon? Or, more of a freeform open discussion?
3/30
This date works fine for me as well. As a newbie I expect that much of the discussions from DrupalCon will be above my pay grade.

Wednesady 3/30 sounds great
Wednesday 3/30 sounds great to me. I think some discussion from Drupalcon is a good idea, though I'm sure we can cover other topics as well.
Great to see all the
Great to see all the interest! Thanks for putting this together guys. 3/30 works fine for me, and looking forward to meeting y'all. (I work with Louis at HCI in Wilder, VT).

Posted!
Glad to hear March 30 works for many of you! I just posted the event under the NH and VT groups. Hope you can make it.
Louis, I listed you as an organizer, too, but just let me know if you'd prefer I take you off. Would anyone else like to be added as an organizer for the event?
Greetings from Brattleboro
Hi all,
Unfortunately I can't make the 3/30 meeting, but I'm glad to see there are Drupalers in the area.
If anyone lives in or near Brattleboro, please drop me a line.
Cheers,
Andrea
Hi everyone,
Does the venue have to be free? Could we pay for some conference time at the Radison or Courtyard?
conference space
I found a group that has a large conference room in the centerra business park, and i also found a group that might be willing to sponsor the fee for the room. At the moment I'm waiting on both the rate for the conference room, and the amount said group is willing to sponsor up to.
Nothing is confirmed yet, so if anyone else comes up with ideas, I'm game for that as well!

Drupal gallery
As far as presentation ideas go:
I was thinking of expanding on Jeff Eaton's work. What if the gallery was implemented using a module (or set of modules)? What if we used "hook_nodeapi" to capture the delete event for the gallery? When you delete a gallery, you could have Drupal delete the photos for it automatically.
Also, I've implemented a YouTube gallery based on his work. You don't have to use just static pictures.
As far venue costs go:
I'll be willing to chip in $20 bucks for the venue. We used to do that for the UVCIA.

Hi Chris,
Just wanted to check in and see if you had any luck with the Centerra conference room? Or shall I start scouting out other options?
Thanks for all your help on this!
Christina
i find out today!
Hi Christina,
I find out today whether we get the conference room or not. At the moment someone has it booked for a small group, and they volunteered to move their meeting to another night if they can notify everyone in time and gave today as the deadline. It's looking good for us, but i'll know more by 5pm today. Its probably still a good idea to not discount the possibility of them saying no, and come up with some other options just in case.
-Chris
Ah, cool! Thanks, Chris. I'll
Ah, cool! Thanks, Chris. I'll research other possibilities too, as a backup. And I'm definitely open to suggestions if anyone has ideas.

Venues and topics
Thanks for looking into venue and sponsorship possibilities, Chris! And big thanks to the group considering sponsoring our room fees.
For topics, it sounds like so far we have:
What else would folks like to hear about?

D7
I would be interested to hear if anyone has used Drupal 7 in production. Sharing some "gotcha's", tips, or new modules that leverage D7's new features. I've been so immersed in drupal 6 that I haven't had a chance to explore D7 in depth.
3/30
I am a new to Drupal so I am starting with 7. Just so you all know the "learning cliff" is a live and well. I would be interested in having some time at the meet up set aside for grasping core Drupal info for newbies, sort of letting us know what you wish you had known back in the day. If I am the only new guy than I will just try to hang on for dear life.
We have a location!
Hi everyone,
I just got word that the conference room I've been working to book is officially (and potentially regularly) ours. We can thank the accounting firm "Tyler Simms St. Sauveur" and Justin Loati for providing it free of charge for us. Its available to us from 6-9pm, so we can pick a start time in between there. The address is:
19 Morgan Drive
Lebanon NH 03766
when you pull into parking lot, drive all the way down and around the building and park / enter there. I'll make sure there are signs and people to greet and direct everyone.
also its a quick short walk to Margaritas if we also want to organize a post meetup social.
Now to work out the pizza and beer fund ;)
-Chris
Awesome!!!
That's great to hear!!!
Can you add the location details to the event node at: http://groups.drupal.org/node/128009 so it's all listed there as well??
And RE: After meetup social.... I highly recommend... meetups/discussions/presentations are great, but you don't get to really "know" your fellow community members until you can kick back a round or two with 'em!! :)

Location!
Thanks for arranging this, Chris! (And of course big thanks to Tyler, Simms & St. Sauveur, and Justin). I pursued a couple of other venue options over the weekend, but none of them were optimal; I'm glad this worked out. And close proximity to Margarita's is certainly a nice bonus!
I'll post the details to the event listing.
See you all next week!
