I'm also going to be there... curious if anyone has observations about Drupal 7's timeline and if the general consensus on avoiding the Drupal 5 to 6 upgrade (for those using numerous modules in Drupal 5) remains...

No, use it, don't skip it

No, don't skip Drupal 6. Use it and embrace it. The community has voted to extend Drupal 7's release date in the future so that Drupal 6 can be deployed, tested, and established as a viable product.

In many cases, Drupal 6 is

Harry Slaughter's picture

In many cases, Drupal 6 is not an option. I have not personally used it for anything other than experimentation. Any non-trivial project requiring more than just drupal core must be careful in deciding what version to use. Be certain that all of the modules your project requires have been ported and tested on 6. If not, stick with 5.

Drupal.org doesn't even use Drupal 6. Don't quote me on this, but I consider Drupal 6 a non release simply because the core team completely disregarded the fact that 90% of the community does rely on contrib modules to build sites, and didn't provide sufficient time for developers to catch up with the rapid pace of core.

This is the very first major release of Drupal which I have not jumped on immediately. I hope the core team learns from this release and will be considerate of the users that rely on contrib when releasing Drupal 7.

Is there any topic planned

brenda003's picture

Is there any topic planned for this meetup?

Maybe we could talk about this problem

Senpai's picture

I'll offer to put together a topic on how we conquered this little use case dilemma in Drupal 5 the other day: http://www.workhabit.org/allowing-node-publishing-unpublishing-non-node-...

The scenario was like this. How do you allow people to 'own' a certain content type (such as a blog or a recipe or a calendar event) and be able to grant them publish/unpublish privileges but not let them delete each other's posts with the Administer Nodes permissions?

Turns out it's harder than you'd think, because simply giving them permission to unpublish a node of a certain content type means that they'll never be able to re-publish it since they can't see unpublished content!

Come to the DUG this Wednesday and we'll show you how we worked around this limitation. Then you tell us if what we've come up with should be a module unto itself, or made into a patch for an existing module that we might not even know about?

What is up peoples...? the meeting is October 8th at Platt still?...also wanted to know if anyone is involved in the OpenSocial issues for Drupal as a platform. Also can thse applications transfer in the F8 platform as well? Can we discuss this? I am also looking to find some people that may be interested in building out a cool Flash Drupal application under a Patent that has been filed and is ready to be launched with about 30-60 hours of work...NDA's etc will be needed but it is damned cool what we are trying to launch...looking forward to hearing from the group. Cheers
