Drupaldelphia

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Its about that time of year to start a discussion about the 2011 Drupaldelphia event. If no one has already volunteered to take up the mantle of organizing this event, I would like to do so. If this event is already in progress, I would then like to lend over my support.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to make the meetup tonight (I was heading to DC for the Nonprofit Tech Conference) but Drupalcon definitely put the drive back in me to get a Drupalcamp up and going sometime soon. I should have more ability to contribute than I did last year.

Zivtech folks: Have you had any thoughts/plans about the next Drupalcamp? If not, maybe we should organize a meeting to think and plan with anyone who's interested.

I was at the Zivtech meeting this afternoon when the topic came up, and I volunteered to get this all started. The next step is setting up a meeting to begin discussions, I think everyone is a lil worn out from Drupalcon last week, but the time to start planning is soon. So lets plan a meet up once we get some more interest to get the ball rolling.

I'm officially voicing my interest to help however possible again this year. Drexel Libraries can be added to the pool of consideration as a free venue again, the only drawback being reduced space, the massive appeal being that it would be free. I can also help out with print media, t-shirts, etc.

That actually sounds AWESOME

That actually sounds AWESOME , Drexel Libraries might be the perfect venue for the event this year.

What is the practical size limit at Drexel?

ldpm's picture

Hi, Katherine,

Do I recall correctly that we had Drupaldelphia in the basement of one of the Drexel libraries in 2009? I remember that at 80 people, it was pretty crowded, partly because our biggest room only held I think 40 people, and there were some sessions that were really really popular. Is there a possibility of spilling over into multiple buildings or something this year? Cheers,

-Larry

Hi Larry, Indeed, it was

kat3_drx's picture

Hi Larry,

Indeed, it was there in 2009. It was pretty crowded because of the room limitations, but we were asked to host at the last minute (within about 2 weeks of the actual event if memory serves) when several other venues fell through. If we have enough advance notice, I can easily book us at least one or two more classrooms, and located closer to each other (plus with more space) and we could probably hold...runs off to count the chairs in the classrooms about 150 comfortably, given enough lead time to book the classrooms. :) We'd be happy to host for free if this works out.

I'm also happy to help again

ldpm's picture

I'm also happy to help again this year. I can do nothing regarding space, though if we do go somewhere that allows outside catering, I might be able to get us a good rate from a friend in the catering business if he is available.

Last year, we had something like 175 paid registrations; do we think this year will be bigger or smaller? Given that there has not been a DrupalCon on the east coast since 2009, and 2012 will be in Denver, I'm willing to bet that it'll be bigger (unless we cap it or something).

My inclination is that it's

kat3_drx's picture

My inclination is that it's likely to be at least as big if not bigger. It seems to grow exponentially if not capped. This is definitely a good thing; we get representatives from organizations in and around Philadelphia, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Massachusetts.

Count me in...

I'd like to help, too. It's a great event!

Think Bigger?

alex ua's picture

Give our past successes and the continued growth of Drupal, I'd really like to target at least 200, but preferably 250 people for the next Camp. I also think it's very important to have the camp near public transportation, and preferably Amtrak, so if there's any way we could do it at one of the Universities, that would be awesome. But, I do think we should try and get at least 200 people, so that may limit our choices a bit (we also don't have to do that- it's just my preference/opinion).

There are two other big camps happening on the East Coast (that I know of): DrupalCamp NYC (04/30) and CapitolCamp DC (07/22-23). A Bunch of Zivtech folks will also be heading out west for DrupalCamp Colorado (06/11-12) so I'd say we should be targeting early-to-mid May or late June for Drupaldelphia.

Has anyone suggested dates?

Is there a Drupaldelphia

Is there a Drupaldelphia issue tracker of sorts where we can keep track of tasks and make it easier to see what needs doing? I would like to help in some way.

2011 Planning Forum on the Drupaldelphia website

ldpm's picture

Hi, everyone.

I've created a Forum on the 2010 website for planning the 2011 Camp. Visit http://www.drupaldelphia.com/forums/119 or the "Discuss" link on the top menu. This week, if nobody beats me to it, I'll add a "2010 Camp" taxonomy term to all the sessions from last year, and exclude them from the main session view.

Last year's venue was great.

sk33lz's picture

I think that the Fox School of Business was a great venue last year. We had plenty of room for more (I think) and it was reasonably priced if I remember correctly. It was also just built not too long ago, so it had many of the technology features we were looking for. Has anyone talked to Chris? I know he was very instrumental in getting us that venue. I am looking forward to a great turnout this year as well. I think 200+ is the range we should be prepared to handle if we choose the right day(s). I am thinking maybe on the weekend would be best, as I recall a few people not able to attend last year because it was during the week. For good measure, I am throwing May 14, 2011 out there as a best possible date. It just so happens to be exactly the same date as last year lol. It is in line with Zivtech's schedule that Alex mentioned, and would be on a Saturday. Just my 2 cents.
