Organic Groups, which Drupal core to use?

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Hi,

I'm new to Drupal and I'm trying to build a site with Organic Groups being the main part of the site. However, I'm really having a hard time trying to learn how to do this. I think a lot of my problem is that I'm trying to use Drupal 7 and the latest version of Organic Groups, and the vast amount of information out there is for Drupal 6. And, while Organic Groups is available for Drupal 7, a number of things, like OG Panels, is not.

I guess, in short, what I need to know is if I need to start over and install Drupal 6 to get the Organic Group functionality that I see being used at such sites like the Australian Greens, or if I can do this with Drupal 7.

Thank you.

I'm starting to build out a new site also and at this point I'm sticking with 6 since there's some core features I need that haven't been updated yet for 7.

Something that may help is checking out

You may have found these but these related to OG. In general, I found these sites to be a great resource.
