iPhone User Registration with Services Module - Best Practices

Wondering if anyone is willing to share best practices in exposing user registration via the Services module. This would be used with an iOS application.

Thanks, but (forgive me if I'm wrong), this doesn't support registration. Also, I'm looking for more portable code that will support Android, etc.

I can make the REST calls to Services myself, just wondering what other people are doing in regards to SSL/encryption and registration.
