I'd also like to know the process of how I could gain more access to do this myself?

Can you see http://groups.drupal.org/og/users/506 and click on the links for "Admin: create"?
The link to that page is no longer available on your customized homepage, but is visible on any node in the group (or other tabs from the group home page) by clicking on the "125 members" link and then on the "list" tab at the top.

doh! I actually knew that
doh! I actually knew that page existed - just looked in the wrong place, and then assumed i didn't have access. apparently its been too long since I've updated admins on OG.
FWIW- the "other" page on the group still has "blocks" - so I have full navigation etc within the group.
