We have been working on the pattern library at http://drupal.org/ui-standards and we are slowly getting closer to a workable version for inclusion in our gates. I would love for others to contribute more to this, so here goes my own to-do list for the pattern library. Obviously the end-goal is a pattern library that is really easy to comprehend and apply, with walk-through, the individual patterns and a easy to navigate listing.

First of all almost all patterns still need review, from both copy to the recommendations. Additionally some of them are still incomplete, in general I wish to:

General

  • Add quality screenshots to all patterns, many of them have poor quality/proportions
  • Create links to supporting API documentation
  • Improve pattern listing pages
  • How to document a new pattern

Information Architecture

  • Expand the initial introduction to include the process of thought for selecting a category
  • Write descriptions for each sub-category on Configuration page
  • Include more examples of modules

Form elements

  • Most of the form element patterns are incomplete, need updating.
  • Add patterns for autocomplete

Listings

  • Add patterns for; drag & drop, filters, in table add
  • Review table pattern

Interface text

  • This needs to be split up more, links from individual pattern to the corresponding interface text part
  • Additional guidelines on page description, form element descriptions and labeling

Enclosing I would love ideas on patterns that we also want to cover in this pattern library, I can think of many but I need a general idea from the community which essential ones are missing. Additionally, I think we need some kind of walk through example that applies to many modules.
