Would there be value in having a coding lounge where people could get together to hack away on their own projects, contrib modules, etc? Would there be space? We could use this to balance against the sessions, maybe keeping the conference a little light on sessions but high on time for code & chat?

Yup...
There was always the idea of a BOF room, but I think our target audience/local community is light on BOF fanatics...
With the current rate of sessions, we'll have probably 1 (maybe even 2) rooms left over, and there is (i think but need to verify again) a nice area on the second floor for something like this.
