This page relates to the Skill sets described in the open curriculum project, and tries to describe one of the skill sets. See this page as a collaborative notebook, and feel free to edit and improve it.

(Ok, I don't know how to approach describing a skill set in detail, so I just jot something down here. //Itangalo)

Someone with content creation and management skills is able to:

  • Create and update content (nodes)
  • Use relevant interfaces to upload images and files, use text editors, and so on
  • Publish and unpublish content (including scheduled publishing, if the site supports it)
  • Find content, even if it is unpublished
  • Manage front page promotion (which also includes site-specific mechanisms for this, such as reordering content on front page)
  • Manage other type of content promotion, such as sidebar promotion (if the site supports it)
  • Use content management tools set up for the particular site (such as bulk operation views and Workbench)
  • Know what is meant by the owner of a content piece, and any implications for access to content this has
  • Know how to identify and change content owners
  • Know what is meant by different content types
  • Create menu links to content
  • Reorder menu items
  • Know what taxonomy terms are, and how (if) they are used on the particular site
  • Create, edit and delete taxonomy terms
  • Create, find, edit and delete URL aliases (if the site supports it)
  • Create a custom block and place it in a region
  • Moderate comments

Not sure, but maybe some

Not sure, but maybe some basic usage of predefined VBO and Workspace configurations would fit here too.

Added.

Good one. Now a part of the preliminary description. :-)

That's it, workbench :)

too broad?

I think this might be too broad for a single skill set. Maybe it should be broken down into "basic content creation and management" and "advanced content creation and management". I'd move the "editorial tools" and "permissions" stuff to the "advanced" category.

On the other hand, maybe keep the one skill set, but break it up into two sections, basic and advanced...

Removed roles

The line about knowing which roles are used on the site is now removed.
The line about editorial tools is still there – I think it makes sense to include tools like these in the skills for content management. I have a feeling that this is a matter of me choosing the wrong words: what I mean is that someone managing content should also be able to (say) select 4 content pieces in a VBO and publish them, or browse through the Workbench list of images on the site to locate the relevant one.

Feel free to give the line a better description – or protest if you still think it should be removed.
