Class Recommendations for a Drupal Neophyte
Hello all,
I am a site maintainer for my office currently and use html in dreamweaver. We are revamping our website and will be using Drupal to do so. I have no experience whatsoever with it or PHP and was wondering if someone could recommend a class I could take either in the Boston area or online for PHP/Drupal, etc.
Thank you so much :)
Stephanie

as discussed at last night's meetup, here's the link to zivtech's drupal video wall. there's loads and loads of content here and i haven't had near enough time to parse through it all, so i can't say whether it's all good, all bad, or halfsies.
take a look for yourself and let us know which videos you find helpful!

Read moreNeed venue for picnic or BBQ for next meetup
Hi all. I would love to take a break from the conference room and host our next meetup outdoors. Specifically, I am looking for volunteers who can secure a grassy space for about 25 people or so. If we have access to a BBQ, thats terrific. If not, we'll just picnic without one.
Sean has offerred his space, but there is no grass and a small BBQ so I am just reaching out for a more comfortable alternative.
I think we can leave the laptops at home for this one and just chat about Drupal.

Getting XDebug and Eclipse to play together nicely
Following the discussion at last Wednesday's meetup, I posted some detailed "how-to" instructions on how to set up XDebug, MAMP, and Eclipse w/ PDT here:
http://labs.echoditto.com/drupal-xdebug-pdt-eclipse
A lot of these instructions should apply to Windows users and non-MAMP users as well, the only real difference should be where the xdebug.so file comes from and where it lives. Look forward to feedback, more to come (probably a quick screencast of PDT/XDebug tricks to start with).
Cheers,
Ethan

This is a writeup of how and why United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley chose Drupal for the redesign of supportunitedway.org. I'll talk about our history with Drupal, how we structured the new site, which modules we used, and how we migrated data from our old site.

Read moreNew layout for the Boston Group
I'm working on a new layout for the Boston Drupal group and I wanted to solicit some input from the community before I do anything drastic. It seems that our group's 244 members are using this page for a bunch of different purposes and I wanted to compartmentalize these into a just a few useful pages and blocks. My purpose is to help members find what they are looking for faster, and make sure the most pertinent of topics do not get buried.

Following the first Tuesday of the month timing we have been doing, then next Western Mass Drupal Meetup will be on Tuesday, June 3.
That was a great meeting this past Tuesday. Many thanks to Jim Skowyra for arranging the room again!
Thanks to David Hamilton this meeting will be hosted at Amherst College campus, Webster 102. For more see David's comment below.
Also, we have been informal in the past but I think an agenda would be good with as many presentations as possible, so comment below if you have something to present. It can be small and "newbie" so anything is cool. I think at the last meeting we did presentations that would have been over heads of newbies so want to maybe balance that with some basic stuff too. A step by step of Imagecache Module use is an example.
Check back here later for more details.
Thanks, Rick Hood
UPDATE:
agenda so far:
- Using the Audio Module - Jim Skowyra
- Building an image gallery using CCK, Views, Imagecache, Thickbox and Custom pagers (http://drupal.org/node/144725) - Rick Hood
- Making custom page and views templates - Dan
- The Innerfade module (http://drupal.org/project/innerfade) - tentative - Dan
Open Source Barbecue: (Rained out)
Bad news. Even though it's sunny now, all weather forecasts point to thunderstorms by noon. With people traveling from as far away as New Hampshire, I'd rather hold this on a day with less risky weather. We'll do this on another weekend in June.

Read moreDevelopment & Production Sites with Database Prefixes
I mentioned this at the last Boston meetup, and there was some interest so I though I would share. Running two sites off the same database and prefixing certain tables should allow for a simple dev/prod environment.
The idea is to isolate the configurations for the two different sites in two differently prefixed sets of tables, and allow all the content, users, taxonomy, etc. to mingle. To test this I've set up two subdomains, dev1.castlin.net and dev2.castlin.net. Here is the entry in settings.php for dev2 (dev1 is strikingly similar):
