Here at BlufftonToday.com, I have a little bit of a different situation. We don't extract from print to post online (we have a separate online edition soon to be substantially upgraded), but we do want to reverse publish all we can.
To ease the process for the print news designers, my friends at Morris Digital Works have provided me with tearsheet.module, still in development. It exports items of your choosing based on certain selection criteria into a plain text output suitable for copying and pasting into design software. It is currently implemented only for events.
Our staff is experimenting with using Drupal's event to centrally input all community events that can then be displayed on the website as well as easily reverse published with minimal staff intervention. Only problem: we need to be able to structure the event input so community users don't forget to include important details like, say, event location.
Steve and I are going to add CCK to a testbed installation and start messing around with that to create custom event input that can then be extracted. But events are just the beginning - I'd like to see tearsheet fully developed to support all kinds of user created content.
