Points of Interest

Topics/Presentations

We'd like to see everyone come prepared (even just mentally) to either pose a question/issue they've ran across in the past month, or something cool/amazing they've discovered in the past month. There are plenty of questions out there, so let's make sure we know what they are so we can get them all answered at this month's meetup!!

Additionally, please use the comments on this event node to suggest topics. If there is a consensus, we will try to have someone prepared to do an informal presentation.

Dinner & Drinks

After each meetup, we depart from the "structured" environment, and continue our discussions over beers and/or food.

Congratulations Jake and Michelle!

Unfortunately, I’ll be away again this month. However, after this there’s only one more trip north for SQL training this year.

M & J, congratulations!!!

Coming to the NH Summit instead!

leenwebb's picture

Congratulations!!

I think that since the NH Summit is so soon, we'll come down for that and skip this meeting (plus Concord is only 1.5 hours away instead of 2 :). We'd be happy to geek out about the Manchester Airport site if anyone wants to hear about it!

Eileen

Congrats! Congrats!! See you

Congrats! Congrats!!

See you guys tomorrow night.

Anyone got any topics to discuss?

Like to discuss Drupal Commerce

BruceDawson's picture

Planning on using it for a site or two. Like to discuss people's experiences with it. Also, we'll be "constructing" products as people order them using external software, to be paid for via the web site. Any one have any thoughts to share on this?

And, oh yeah, anyone interested in a BBQ on a farm?

Sounds great. I been working

Perignon's picture

Sounds great. I been working on Commerce now for about 8 months. I even have a site running on my laptop with a functioning cart so we can dig into it.

:(

Not able to go this time around.

Commerce...

himerus's picture

I've got to say, I'd rather likely show the new Commerce Kickstart release for getting a commerce site up and running quickly with full commerce functionality.

http://drupal.org/project/commerce_kickstart

It's actually an amazing installation process and has full demo content out of the box. Maybe we can walk through installing that, and going through some of the config/setup process.

I'm currently about to be creating a new Omega subtheme for Commerce Kickstart, to serve as the building point for the distribution, and the current demo theme IS build with Omega. :)

v2 = awesomely buggy (duh)

DamienMcKenna's picture

I tried out the v2 alpha-2 release and found it to be a) a brilliant step forwards, b) very buggy but that's to be expected as an alpha release. I'm really looking forward to seeing it solidify, it'll be amazing for Drupal stores.

Yup! I was about to reply

Perignon's picture

Yup! I was about to reply with the same comment. I installed it last night and the profile install blows up.

They actually developed a lot of stuff I have done on my own with my shopping cart. I've built a lot of external stuff in the rest of the site that uses commerce. I can show them tonight. A custom block and some custom panel pages.

I'll go ahead and say here that one thing that sucks right now about Commerce is shipping! We are having a serious problem getting shipping right.

My concern with Kickstart

MMachnik's picture

My concern with Kickstart (other than stability issues reported by others) is as I recall, on the one hand it is a nice demo of the functionality and what you can do, but on the other hand, there's a lot of customization there that a new user may think is in the product out of the box -- and will get confused if they install Commerce by itself and don't have those customizations. When we have done Drupal Commerce projects, DC has been just one component of the project, and so we don't start with Kickstart -- we add the Commerce modules to the existing project. Which is how most people use Commerce -- according to the usage statistics, 2028 sites are using Kickstart, but 15149 are using Commerce.

So rather than a demo of Kickstart which I think anyone can download and try, it might be more helpful to show how you'd go through using Commerce after installing the modules. Otherwise I could see people getting confused when they add Commerce to their site and can't figure out why it's not doing what they saw in the Kickstart demo. Just a thought however -- if most people still want to see Kickstart that's ok with me. :)

That's why I didn't start with Kickstart

BruceDawson's picture

I didn't use Kickstart because it looked like things were too integrated, and that I would have to undo a lot of the work to get to the basic functionality and change it to do what I need.

However, now I'm concerned that I'll be able to get things going from a simple install of Commerce (and its required modules).

More to talk about tonight...

My site that I will be able

Perignon's picture

My site that I will be able to show tonight is Commerce and Omega :)

I've also modified Commerce to work with Logintoboggan for the commerce_redirect module to force registration on checkout if not signed in.

I can easily throw you my entire code base if you want.

I think a demo of Kickstart

mkmagu's picture

I think a demo of Kickstart would be good, even though people can down load it and play with some may have issues getting to that point. Is it possible we would have enough time for both a Kick start demo and have Brady go over what he has done as well.

Good idea

BruceDawson's picture

And I'll be able to see what I missed when I installed without Kickstart!

I'll be there probably 30

Perignon's picture

I'll be there probably 30 minutes ahead (to beat traffic from the south) if you want to have a side session about Commerce ahead of time.

Commerce is both good and bad, more good than bad though.

Interwebs video?

Is there a webcast for tonight's meetup?
