lesson idea: theming workingcalifornians with panels

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

maybe josh can walk us through theming workingcalifornians.com with panels. I tried panels, but got edit screens that were 1 inch wide. workingcalifornians.com looks really good and a walk through would be very helpful

I've seen that layout done

I've seen that layout done with CSS only. I'll see if I can track down the site for you. It'd be interesting to see how Drupal might work with that layout though.

On the otherhand, I'm looking for a lesson on dealing with the CCK module - from a database perspective. Specifically so I can import some non-standard/non-drupal data and save a lot of custom coding of display and management pages.

Well, I concur.

I love learning the the API/coding/database aspects of Drupal, but it'd be nice to also cover some less technical details as well. I think a quick run-through centering around powerful contrib modules like Views and Panels would be great for those of us who are new. I've found at times it's a lot easier to learn by example. . . if not for the concept as a whole, for aspects you may have overlooked.
