Drupalcon Barcelona and SQIL overlap

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

I was reading about the Barcelona Drupalcon which will happen at the end of the Québec Free Software Week (SQIL) and it got me thinking... I poked Omar with the idea, but figured I might as well share it here now and see if there is any interest.

Would some of your be interested in participating and/or organizing a local (smallish) convention, maybe Saturday September 22nd, for those of us who won't make it to Barcelona? We could probably manage some sort of telepresence taking into consideration the 5 hour difference.

It would be a great addition to the SQIL and pretty cool for our local Drupal community I think. So who's with me?

Sounds like a plan...

...however, I can't make any plans for that time in September as my wife should be giving birth around then. My life will pretty much revolve around that event - I might even have to take a break from Drupal!! :)

private post?

can lowly members make posts public, or can only omar and miriam (group administrators) do that?

What do you mean public?

Anybody who comes to the group will see it. Do you mean promoted to the front page of g.d.o? If so, I'm not sure that that would be relevant as it is a local/regional issue... that is, of course, unless we changed the approach from being a solution to SQIL/DrupalCon overlap to being an invitation for people to organise local events that could all be coordinated with the DrupalCon.... e.g. get all the events to have a webcam setup somewhere and set up a page that shows all of them and, perhaps, would allow/incite users to interact directly. Anyway, just wanted to share a few cents worth of thought on this.

Thanks, it's public now (you

Thanks, it's public now (you don't have to be logged in or a member of this group to see it anymore). I didn't mean to put it on the frontpage. Not sure what's the distinction you're trying to make though... the SQIL is and has always been an open invitation to organise local events. I think at this point the best we can do is get the word out and hope to gain a little momentum.

Good idea...

I think that this is a good idea Robin. I'll be able to help this initiative out... but I wouldn't be interested in running the whole show by myself.

Anyway, you can take this as a "+1" :-)
