URL and redirection (Latin America group)

Just a minor question on group URLs and redirects. The default URL in all generated links to the Latin America group is http://groups.drupal.org/latino . There is a redirect from http://groups.drupal.org/latin-america (which can be added to links by hand), but the suitable way would be that, on the contrary, latin-america was the default URL, and latino the redirect (to avoid breaking old links).

URL isn't among the manager options (I'm now the interim manager for the Latin America group). I think new URLs are usually generated when changing the group name. However, this is not a case of name change, just URL change, and there are redirections involved. Probably this is a matter for a groups.drupal.org admin. Thanks, and sorry for any inconvenience.

New name doesn't change wrong URL

I've tried changing the group name from "Latin America" to "Latino", and again from "Latino" to "Latin America". However, the default URL is always "latino" (wrong), not "latin-america" (right). See for example:

http://groups.drupal.org/groups?title=Latin+America

Trying again and again, no luck

All automatic links to the "Latin America" group still were "/latino", so I've tried again, this time changing the name to "America Latina", and again to "Latin America":

Latin America -> America Latina -> Latin America

After that, the default URL and links were "/america-latina". It's better than "/latino", but still wrong.

So, I tried:

Latin America -> Latin-America

And the resulting links were "/latinamerica".

Not bad, but the correct URL -for groups.drupal.org standards- would be "/latin-america". Maybe waiting for a while before the next change... So, I waited, and later tried:

Latin-America -> Latin America

But the links still are "/latinamerica". See for example the already mentioned link to the groups search:

http://groups.drupal.org/groups?title=Latin+America

It seems difficult to get the correct automatic links (no redirections, but default URL in all generated links to the group), that is to say "/latin-america". I don't know, maybe the cause is a existing redirection from "/latin-america", so that it cannot be the default URL until removing the redirection? Or another cause?

If a groups.drupal.org admin can help, it would be very nice. Thank you very much.

seems already done

http://groups.drupal.org/latin-america works fine for me.

I think we want:

Right? If you agree I can fix it in the database directly.

Yes, please do it, thank you

Yes, please do it. I think the automatic links to the group (for example, from the group's wikis, discussions, etc.) should be all /latin-america for consistency, so that people know and share always the same URL (that is, the primary alias). The redirects you mention are also fine as a complement to prevent broken links (just a few I think). However a correct primary alias /latin-america is the main point. Thanks.

got it - fixed

Alrighty - should be done. Let me know if there are other problems. Sometimes these things are better handled as an admin than via the normal tools.

Good work, thanks

It's working very well now, thank you very much.

I'm just a temporary manager for the Latin America group, but I'm trying to have some things fixed if possible, before giving the group to a long-term manager (I'm thinking about asking Victor Kane or some managers of the most active groups, such as Argentina or Brazil).

There is an unrelated bug (duplicate mission statement at the bottom of the page when using an alternative image), but this is a matter for another thread or issue. Thank you!
