I and a friend are currently mapping out the plans for an online youth magazine targeting youth with disabilities. We've decided that Drupal is the best platform to produce the online magazine, but with so many options available to us with the modules that are available we aren't sure where to start.
I would be interested in any tips people have about setting up an online magazine/newsletter and in running the community side (e.g. blogs, forums, etc). Also, since our target age range is 16-25 I would like to hear thoughts on protecting the privacy of our members who are minors.
Also, we are currently trying to figure out how Drupal will help us organize the issues (e.g. site.com/volume/1/issue/1/content) or how that works.
The system is very comprehensive and seems to have a learning curve but we are enjoying the experience.

I'm not really sure which kind of tips you are going to need
"I would like to hear thoughts on protecting the privacy of our members who are minors."
Which kind of protection do you mean? Protecting from what?
I'm not really sure which kind of tips you are going to need. I mean how much you already know about drupal.
To give you SOMETHING more than my questions, I'm going to start with a module list, I would use it on almost every website, because these modules cover some important basic functionality:
basic:
path
pathauto
globalredirect
meta tags
cck
views
logintobogan
captcha
textimage
and more:
actions
workflow
contemplate
autonodetitle
panels
usernode
userprotect
I don't know if that list is going to help you, but the modules I listed in the basic part are the ones I can't imagine making any drupal website without. I want to add that if you are targeting youth with disabilities, it's important not to forget the accessibility of your css. I know this is such a basic thought, so shoot me if I bored you to death.
