Hey everyone. There is a lot of activity on the Services front right now, so here's some news!

  • The Services 3.x branch has been opened. This branch is a complete rewrite of Services spearheaded by Hugo Wetterberg. Hugo has been developing this offsite for some time and at our planning meeting a couple months ago, everyone agreed that this would be an excellent foundation for a brand new version. This code base will also be used for Drupal 7. Right now there is an unstable release for Drupal 6 which can be used as a sneak preview of what is to come. For more information on the improvements Hugo has built in to Services, see this blog post or the talk he gave at Drupalcamp Stockholm last year.

  • There will be TWO Services code sprints at Drupalcon San Francisco this coming April! Saturday and Thursday will be sprint days, likely focused on the Drupal 7 port. More details will be forthcoming as they come together, but I wanted to get this on everyone's radar.

  • I will also be speaking about Services at Drupalcon. I will talk for about half an hour, focusing on the new version and the improvements that are coming with Drupal 7, then Josh Kopel and Jingsheng Wang will show off some super cool apps they've built using Services. I am hoping that by spotlighting the excellent work people are doing, the crowd a good idea of what Services is capable of and become inspired to use it in their own projects. There will also be Q&A time after their presentations. Please come by if you are at Drupalcon!

  • Finally I am embarking on a large scale reorganization of the Services handbook. I want to move everything either into general information pages (which apply across all versions) or version-specific pages. Many of the code samples and tutorials in the handbook right now only work in specific versions, an they aren't necessarily labeled properly. I hope that by organizing these pages more sanely we can reduce support requests and make things clearer for everyone. If you're interested in helping out with this, feel free to come by IRC anytime, #drupal-services on freenode. (Link to help out with IRC)

  • Hey we have an IRC channel! #drupal-services on Freenode for all your Services needs :)

That's all I have. Thanks everyone!

I really need to get a clue about services... I was about to drop DRUPAL completely in favor of RoR just because I did not like the SERVICES module... so if there is anything I can do in helping out with an iPhone, iPAD and Android solution, let me know.
