I agree as Nginx is a great and fast web server. I would note that at this time though it should be thought of as an advanced option over Apache given that you won't necessarily find Nginx on shared hosts nor will you find as many sysadmins famililar with it. I do see that starting to change though as Nginx seems to have eclipsed lighttpd in mindshare and the growth in use is increasing rapidly.

I've been using Slicehost for some time now and can't help but notice the numerous forum discussions about configuring servers for better performance. There always seems to be someone claiming to run several Drupal sites on small slices using Nginx. These claims are sometimes anecdotal with few details about site load or configuration, but some give detailed information. Here's an interesting sampling i happened to be reading when this post showed up in my reader.

One thing I would add. If you aren't that familiar with working in Linux or hosting admin, I would suggest sticking with Apache. You will find far more support online for it, and if you hit a big snag, your hosting company will be able to help you. A lot of hosting companies aren't familiar with other web server apps, like LightHTTPD of nGinx, so if you hit a brick wall, they won't be able to help you out.

If you take the time and initially tune Apache and get rid of the bloat that comes with most distros (modules that aren't needed), you will get nice performance out of it.
