I'm looking for some advice on how to create a couple of blocks similar to the Homepage Articles Block.

What I'd like to do is group all articles in two main types, say, X and Y.

Then I would like to create subtypes of X and Y, say, A, B, C, D, E, F and G.

I have no problem with creating the subtypes in taxonomy, but I'm not sure how to create the two main types and have them show up like the Articles Homepage Block.

My plan is to have two required options when an author creates a new article. First they would have to choose from the two main types, x and Y. Then they would have to choose from the subtypes, A, B, C, D, E, F and G.

On the homepage the articles would show up in two types of feeds, X and Y. Internally, the articles would be grouped by A, B, C, D, E, F and G.

Is this possible?

If you 'Clone' the Articles

If you 'Clone' the Articles view and play about with the blocks you should be able to do this. In theory it is already done for you as the Articles Page view has everything you need.

ie browse 'articles/X' - gives you all x articles
browse 'articles/Y' - gives you all y articles
browse 'articles/A' - gives you all A articles
...etc
