Attaching some thoughts on how to improve the organisation and layout of the panels administration pages. I started pasting this together before I coud see that the img tag is allowed in wiki pages. Let me know if you'd like a certain screenshot to be instantly visible here. I have an .ODT of this document as well but that's bigger than the 1MB limit for attachments here.

- "I expect 'preview' to be a summary of some of the basics as name title and path, preview of the layout, summeray of content placement." I expect 'preview' to be a preview, nothing more, nothing less. If it's not call it something else. So this would be "page preview" in your mockup.
- If I go to administer panels I want to change something, so I wouldn't expect 'preview' to be the first tab. That would be 'layout' or 'settings'. Or the dashboard as you suggest.
- Layout: excellent improvement. I'm not sure about the two columns though (at least the way they are designed now). They suggest equal weight of 'choose layout' and 'customize layout'. It should be made clear in the design somehow that the second column depends on the first.
- So the second alternative (page 5) is worse. 'Choose layout' comes first in the workflow, so it should be presented first.
- Settings: all very good remarks. As I said above, this should be the first tab.
