Good news is that our client loves the site we launched for them a month or so ago. However they would like to have a Japanese version of the new site at their .jp domain. Anyone with experience localizing Drupal for Japanese?
Thanks,
Rick W.

I'm learning about that as well - I would recommend taking a look at icanlocalize - http://drupal-translation.com/. They've written some nice modules to manage translation. Additionally (though not required) you can also get your content translated through their service, and the whole thing has workflow and approvals. 7-10 cents/word is fairly inexpensive for translation, as far as I know.
Localization will get you
Localization will get you started with menues and overall structure of the site.
Just make sure you would think ahead about managing "comments". From my limited experience, you would create another node in Japanese for each node, and then link them... it's a challenge to "combine" the comments of the two nodes. Unless you choose to keep them all in English.
Good Luck ;-)
Comments on localized version
In this case it's a corporate site with no user generated content. Comments module is OFF altogether.
Relatively easy if you have Japanese text already
I made a multilingual site a while back with English, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian enabled. The biggest headache by far is having actual translations for each node and block. The rest is easily achieved with a suite of modules and language files from d.o: Locale (core), Internationalization, Language Icons, Translation Status and Translation Overview. The latter two are for managing your translations of Drupal strings and content - just as important as the multilingual setup itself.
The site is salvadorbahia.net

Drupal Japan
What about drupal japan? It is translated to suit japanese users.

Very old thread, but I would
Very old thread, but I would just like to say that drupal.jp is a privately run website built specifically in Japanese, not translated.
