Hello, I'm just posting here to let everyone know that the bulk of the new theming handbook is up. Most of it has been rewritten and reorganized. I hope it is accurate and clear enough to get everyone familiar with the theming system.
It's still missing sections on sub-theming (which can get really fancy BTW). I hope to get a few solid explanations and illustrations on the possibilities. Engineless themes and theme engine sections are not there yet but I don't think it's too critical.
JavaScripting could use some help too. I hope someone can fill that in.
It's late, but it's better now than piling up on the old material in the old theming handbook.

Awesome work!
I've been using your docs as you were writing them. It was funny refreshing the tabs I had open and seeing it change. Hehe.
The docs are really amazing. Great work!

Wow Joon!
This is really beautiful stuff. It's so thorough, well organized and well put together. It's some of the best drupal documentation I've seen :)
Bless you.
Thanks for the good work. Many of us come with an html/css background but rely on the kindness of strangers for the Drupal/php part. I firmly believe that well written handbooks are the thing that will bring Drupal to the masses. Thanks.
Agreed. This is fantastic.
Agreed. This is fantastic. Promoted to front page.
Great! I Appreciate it.
Great! I Appreciate it.
I don't write much on any topic so I wasn't sure if it was totally clear or not. Glad it worked out. :) If I had the time, I'd illustrate every concept and behavior since I'm more visual in my thinking.
Cheers!
Great work
Fantastic! Good structure and I specially liked the illustrations!

Brilliant mate
Thanks for this great work Joon, I think I'm going to be referring back to this a lot. Really well structured and laid out. If you expanded on this and published it as part of a book on the subject I'd buy it!
Required reading for all Drupal designers and developers I reckon.

Heh, there was going to be a book but it never happened. I wouldn't want to go through writing a book after working with the handbooks. It's work that isn't too satisfying but bring in them designers. We need more of them.
Fantastic work
And as a designer I want to thank you. This is very very useful!
Absolutely stunning
10/10 over-all overview. Perfect graphics and visualization. Awesome arrangement of ideas, well-thought references, very informative technical writing... dang I'm losing words to describe the greatness of your effort.
Keep the goodies coming! Will be here for moral support ;)

just improve it
If you or anyone else can improve it in anyway that would be great. Being clear and concise is important I think. Or just critique it. I appreciate the comments so far but I know it can be better.
Any suggestions on what should be in there and more importantly, what shouldn't be in there would also help. I really don't know what else to ask.
ok... thanks
I will take a deep look at it this weekend and then run through it on my DWAMP. If i can add anything, i will. Also, i love the visualizations .... did you create the icons from scratch or are they canned? ... If you can share them, can we download them so that all the graphics can look the same for continuity?
you know, if you understand what an icon means in the system, things become clearer
cheers

Doh! I'll put up all the source files over this weekend. Most of it was done with OmniGraffel with the exception of the tree drawing which was done in Illustrator.
The Icon was canned. Came as part of a stencil pack so it should probably be changed.

I would like to add in my findings
hi,
handbooks help me day in and day out and hence needless to say that I appreciate documentation as much as the code, Great work dvessel and the team :) .. What's the procedure to add into the handbooks or contributing to documentation in general .. I was gonna write on my website but I think If I put my findings here I will be benefitted more with the criticism and corollaries (as they call in geometry :) )
thanks
