I think that the way this project will probably happen is that a small group of coordinators will eventually finalize a detailed outline, down to the level of individual Task and Concept topics. Then the writer/editor participants will write/edit the topics (hopefully as much as possible drawing from existing drupal.org documentation).

So. It's great that people want to help with the outline (and in general), much appreciated! If you want to make it even more useful to the coordinators who are finalizing the official outline, you could:

a) Organize it so that it corresponds with the outline in the Proposal. We've already incorporated some suggestions from people on the other page, so our current outline skeleton is:

  • Understanding Drupal (terminology, background of what a CMS does, license, OSS and the Drupal community)
  • Installation and basic site settings
  • Modules and Themes (finding, downloading, installing, uninstalling)
  • Updating: minor versions of Drupal Core and modules/themes
  • Creating and editing node content, including path aliases and Pathauto
  • Navigation: menus, site home page
  • Block layout and custom blocks
  • Content types and fields, including taxonomy
  • Image styles
  • Views
  • Contact forms
  • Non-English sites and multi-lingual sites
  • Site security

b) If you think that a topic is missing from this outline, feel free to add it to the outline here, but please note that with [added] in the list here so it's easy for the coordinators to see what's new and what's supposed to fall within the existing proposal framework.

c) The outline in the Proposal is a skeleton. We'll eventually need to get down to individual Task and Concept topics, each one of which can stand alone (or at least it could, if you had the necessary background knowledge). If you get down to that level, you can denote each topic with either [Task] or [Concept]. Task topics would start with -ing verbs, like "Adding a new taxonomy vocabulary". Concepts would be background material, like "What is a Content Management System".

Thanks!

Currently, this is one of the

Currently, this is one of the top Google results when searching for "Drupal User Manual". The proposal isn't linked explicitly (I just happened to notice it is currently in the "Hot content" sidebare, but that presumably is mostly a coincidence). So, this is the proposal (presumably) mentioned: https://groups.drupal.org/node/470648

Good catch!

Looks like you or someone else added the link to the top of this page.
