drupal as php extension

has anyone considered writing drupal core as a php extension ?
that way the drupal core modules would be loaded as part of apache and not part of each http page request .

Serious performane issue because of mini-panels and multiple content types

We are working on a site whose pages are taking 17 seconds to load when it is not cached. What you see here is CCK content types like Book, Video, etc. in Block Views, which are then used in Mini Panels. These Mini Panels are joined together to create widgets. We are showing three nodes at a time for each content type - Still loading 12 different content types requires a large number of SQL queries.

Scaling Drupal on shared hosting

Hi folks,

A client of ours just migrated their Drupal site to a shared hosting service and now experiencing performance issues with logged in users. Drupal's caching and APC are enabled, so content is loading fine for anonymous users. We are mostly running into issues with node add forms and administrative pages loading very slowly.

Has anyone run into similar issues migrating a site from a dedicated server to shared hosting? How did you improve performance on your site?

Drupal using 100% CPU

Hitting any link or doing any operation on the site and Top shows the server using 95 to 100% of the CPU to serve the www-data.

Firstly I am not a developer, I am just a photographer with an idea for a site, which because I couldn't find any local cms developers who would build it on Drupal, I started learning on my own. For the moment this is not about high performance, its about ANY performance!
