Is it possible to have welcome email resent?

For some obscure reason, the BOA welcome email, which I treasured in a folder in my Iceweasel (Thunderbird) email client, has disappeared.
Webmail does not show it either.
So, is it possible to have it resent?
Thank you.

Need advice on setting up BOA for multiple servers in order to clone sites between each server easily

Hi there,

I would like some advice on how to best go about achieving a dev-stage-pro workflow using BOA across multiple servers.

I currently have 3 VPS', (2 with Linode, and another with a local provider). I also have a HP Proliant, at home, that i'm wanting to repurpose as a dev server and throw into the mix.

How to keep a BOA system up-to-date properly?

I just updated a Debian 6 BOA 2.04 system using "aptitude upgrade". I was under the impression that this is OK after the initial install. When prompted during the upgrade I chose to keep locally modified php.ini files (two times), thinking this would preserve any BOA-specific settings.

Then my Octopus web control panel started throwing occasional errors: 502 Bad Gateway - nginx.

My php53-fpm-error.log showed this: ERROR: unable to bind listening socket for address '127.0.0.1:9090': Address already in use (98)

Converting Shell Scripts to Chef

Has there been any discussion related to converting the Barracuda / Octopus scripts over to a system like Chef or Puppet? After doing some research I think a Barracuda cookbook for Chef would be pretty amazing. We could take it further and have knife subcommands built that can add clients and sites.

Any thoughts on this?

Having to Migrate Between Builds in Order to Edit/Create Nodes

Hello there!

We're currently running Aegir using Barracuda and then Octopus for our Aegir instances. We've been experiencing a regular issue when attempting to create or edit a Node: Once 'Save' is clicked, the page just refreshes back to the edit Node view, with no changes saved or new Node created. After a couple more attempts, a 500 server error comes up.

Getting some performance from BOA Drupal 7 platforms

Hi everyone,

Started to enjoy BOA (2.0.1 HEAD, with already 2 live sites on it). After pretty steep learning curve, still some of performance questions remain.
There are plenty of performance oriented services installed with Barracuda, such as php-fpm, nginx, redis, memcached etc.

I am talking just about Drupal 7 platform, the one, which is included and updated with Octopus. One of the cool features - symlinked modules to all included platforms. There are more performance oriented included with D6, but in D7 just few.
Ones I am interrested most are (probably in order of importance):

Use Octopus platform as part of a custom makefile?

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knows the best way to base a custom makefile off of, for instance, a BOA pressflow platform? Since Omega has spiced up these platforms with extra useful modules etc, I would want to have my custom platform always pull from the latest BOA pressflow BEFORE adding any of my custom stuff. Anyone done this? thanks!

Octopus purpose?

Hi,

First of all: great job of making automate scripts - Barracuda is flying on relatively cheap VPS, installation probably took 1/20th of time needed to do similar by hand, but one question remains:

What is the purpose of Octopus? I will use this Aegir instance only internally, that means I will be the only administrator, maybe 1-3 more persons will have an access. So, is there a need to install Octopus? I have read few times everything on project page, understood all words (my native is not english) but the whole meaning - not. Especially Is there any "Octopus for dummies" guide?

My own profile in existing platform

Hello,

I want to add my own installation profile in a distribution proposed in octopus.

My quesion is:

Do I need to put in "myprofile/modules" all modules that are used in my profile or is that they can be downloaded on demand via a myprofile.make file ?

In this case, when does the myprofile.make will be executed ? :

  • when creating a new site on the platform ?
  • or when the platform is verified?

Thank you for your help.

Stéphane.

How do I create modifications to an Octopus existing platforms and install profiles?

I originally posted this set of questions at http://drupal.org/node/1186524 and rewrote them once there because after reading my original post I realized that I had done a pretty poor job of creating the post. I wasn't in the best of moods when I created the first post, so I hope anyone that reads it forgives me for that.

Omega8cc suggested that I repost the questions here for discussion now that this group is open. I would have done it sooner, but I've been dealing with a pinched nerve and it's putting a "crimp" in my workflow and getting things done.

Also, since I'm reposting and re-reading, I've made some changes from what I posted at http://drupal.org/node/118652

Anyways, here is the main question at hand:
How do I create modifications to an Octopus existing platforms and install profiles?

I have BOA installed and all of the distributions are very nice, but I need to make my own modifications to them to achieve the desired results. This includes adding non-site specific modules and themes, having as many sites working off of the same code bases as possible to minimize the work required during upgrades, and I also want to be able to upgrade these distributions on my own schedule and not be dependent on the release of BOA updated scripts.

This has created several questions for me, which might in many ways be the same question being asked several different ways:
