There is a proposal for a new workflow for CMI over at http://drupal.org/node/1703168#comment-6344116. This proposal differs from the existing version of CMI in that configuration will be written to one directory while being imported from another one. This would address several architectural problems with the current system. For more details please see the issue summary. Your comments and review of this issue are critical to make sure the system addresses everyone's needs. Thanks for your input!

Though Initiative Owners are doing a fantastic job of keeping up with their individual initiatives, we've recently heard that the community would like more visibility on D8 progress in general. We've been trying to find the right format and we've got something for you to check out! http://drupal.org/community-initiatives/drupal-core

The D8 team of Initiative Owners and its supporters want to make it easier for you to find the most important issues to work on, so we've put together a summary page that we'll be updating it every two weeks, and more frequently on an as-needed basis.

I have posted a discussion issue in the core queue to attempt to get some consensus around the following topics:

• How much information should be stored in each file?
• What is the naming convention for configuration files?

Today I posted the first work-in-progress patch of the file-based configuration system to the core queue. This contains the new API, changes to the installer to support the system, and implementations of a basic system settings form and the image styles subsystem. I urge everyone with an interest in this project to go review the patch and become familiar with the system. The time for comments is NOW! The patch is at

Notes:

You’ll hear the words “MVP” thrown around a lot in the update this week. It stands for “Minimum Viable Product”, and it’s a way for us to define what “success” means for each initiative. More to come on this later :)

Also, our next meeting isn’t until Dec 8th, so you won’t see an update over the Thanksgiving holidays because a bunch of us are enjoying turkey.
