RIP Bloomstreet

Bloomstreet.net one of the biggest German Drupal sites and probably the biggest German social network built with Drupal was closed a few days ago.
Bloomstreet was certainly not shut down because it was built with Drupal, but, as was reported by German media, venture capitalist Bertelsmann was discontent with Bloomstreet's growth.

BabelUp: a community for social change

www.babelup.com

BabelUp is a social network for social activism. That is, it's a fun community to hang out in with friends and discuss global issues. BabelUp hosts forums, user blogs, image galleries, real-time chatting, groups, calendars, and lots of other features you'd expect to find in a well-designed (hopefully) social network.

Hi everyone.

I'm building a student community and is blocked by this issue: how should I organize the student's profiles according to the "university-department-major-year" logic.

In fact, I'm looking for both the logic and the technique.

Building a New Social Network - Any advice for first-time configuration?

I am looking into using Drupal for a new social network aimed at professional and collegiate athletes (NBA, NFL, NCAA, etc.) which will allow them to connect with their fanbase which will also have access to the site membership. The requirements (whick my first platform choice, Elgg, did not adequately meet -- which, in turn, led me to Drupal by recommendation) are to have several different user types related to the industry including fans, teams, universities and career managers (or athlete agents, if you will).

Modules for Social Networks

Hi!
I'm going to create a Social Network based on Drupal. It's my first time that I use Drupal and I'm impressed with the high quantity of modules. There are a lot of modules for each subject (i.e. image gallery, blog, etc). Now I've got a problem because I don't know which are the most useful modules to build a Social Network.

Could you tell me which are the indispensable modules to create a Social Network with Drupal? or which is the best module in a concrete subject?

Thanks in advance.

Individual User/Group Stores Standalone Module/plugin for Ubercart or E-Commerce

I am suggesting for a module which allows for individuals/group admin with certain roles to create/run a store and accept payments through user/group specific payment gateways.

Example of uses:

  1. An NGO might start a group on a social site, and want to sell merchandise to raise funds, they simply create a group store.
  2. a Musician might want to sell his mp3 files on the social site. He can simply purchase a role, for a one-off charge and setup an online store for his music, pictures or event tickets.

XFN Integration

Drupal provides wide-range of functionalities to build any kind of websites from personal blog to community sites. Usually each person has his/her own blog and also is a part of lots of communities, social networks and so on. Most communities offers a profile page associate to each user just like Drupal do. Have you ever posted entries with some referring to your friends, your colleagues or your family? Do you ever stop a while to choose their profiles to be referred? In addition, we are moving to semantic generation that we should make use of relationship among you and your friends. Social Graph API has been introduced by Google to accomplish this functionalities with least modification using XFN.

Description:

Actually, I mean something like [buddylist][] with standard-based cross site social networking module. In short, it should be named just like "XFN Module". This module will offer essential features to help any users to build social network using XFN.

  1. Let user define their own friends and associate relationships as a part of profile. It's not only just friends but also family and many more. See [XFN 1.1][1.1] for more information.
  2. XFN-enabled friend list in profile page.
  3. Views integration to make friends blocks or pages.
  4. XFN filter to help writing article much more easy and fun with your friends. No need to remember their blogs, their facebook, their flickr, and many more.
