I've been thinking about how to organize/connect/network with other travelling drupalists and also for myself.
I would imagine individuals introduction along with interests and what they want and what they can offer in terms of traveling, networking, hosting etc.
Here is my description and I feel we could make a website to organize information better to easily search and find each other and self match making. :)

In this interview, Shareable publisher Neal Gorenflo, John Robb of Global Guerrillas, and P2P foundation's Michel Bauwens talk to David de Ugarte, one of the originators of the Spanish cyberpunk scene about his more recent work developing a multinational worker cooperative, Las Indias, that is a culmination of his community's thinking and work for the last decade.

I just moved to the Richmond area last weekend and I am looking to meet and network with some Drupal lovers. Are there any Drupal(or generic) web design/developer meetups going on in the area?
I'm also looking to create some local support for Drupalers. Feel free to ask me any questions and I will do my best to answer/help!
Hope to meet some of you soon :)

UPDATE Network Manager has been released for 5 6 and 7.
I'm releasing a new module soon and wanted to get some feedback on a screencast that I did. It's a project called the Network Manager (http://drupal.org/project/network_manager) and it helps you manage / maintain your sites all from within one site (given permissions set correctly for mysql user).
Here are links to the screencast (Jing forces it to be in 5 minute segments) --

What modules are the best to use on Drupal 6 for a Social Network?
Just wondering, what modules are the best to use on Drupal 6 for a Social Network? The ones posted by Huitalk are mostly for 5.x...
Any help appreciated.
Read moreHosting, routing and performance conundrum
I have a site that will be heavily used in only six or eight states but they are on different sides of the continental US. I found a really fast host on the east coast with super service, etc, but whenever there is heavy network traffic, it is dog slow on the west coast. I imagine the opposite is true. I found this by doing a tracert and seeing that the big delay was in the middle of the country.
Does anyone have any thoughts or advice on how to select a host for best performance in this case? It is truly a conundrum.

Networking related interest groups Australia
According to drupal.org there are plenty of Australian sign-ups. No doubt most of these are not active for whatever reason. But what about the others who were interested once but moved away when they saw little activity in their area? Personally, I signed up with Drupal and then tried two other CMS systems before the worm turned.
Another thing I'm interested in is any group which might share an affinity with Drupal. Obviously we shouldn't bombard other organisation's mailing lists, so any news about related meet-ups and whatever would be more than appreciated. Anyway, the topic is here so go postal!
