Chicago's local community of various user groups focused on Drupal. Groups have meetings each month in/around Chicago. Please be sure to join our group if interested in posting or hearing about Drupal-related job opportunities in the Chicagoland area.
The Drupal Chicago Meetup Group holds meetups on various topics and networking opportunities. Presentations and speakers are aimed at a general audience, with site show-and-tells, module demonstrations, news and announcements, and question and answer sessions.
If you live or work in the suburbs, check out the Fox Valley Drupal Meetup group with topics for all users.
Volunteers in the Chicago Drupal Group also organize MidCamp - Midwest Drupal Camp. Drupal camps are multi-day events that can include training days, session days, code and documentation sprints, and social events. Held annually in March, MidCamp is quickly becoming one of the larger and prestigious Drupal camps due to its high level of speakers, content, accessibility, and attention to detail.
Did we mention, the Chicago Drupal community has active and ongoing community discussions going on can be found at https://midcamp.slack.com.
Chicago West - Fox Valley Drupal Users Group
We are starting a new Drupal Users Group in the Far West Suburbs of Chicago. Chicago West - The Fox Valley Drupal Users Group!
Our plan is to keep to a fourth Thursday evening of the Month so we don't conflict with the Chicago group ('cause I still want to participate there also!)
Let's grow Drupal all over the Greater Chicago Area! Then just wait to see the result for the Next Chicago Drupal Camp!

So if user A tags a community node with 'drinks', 'entertainment', and 'bar' the resulting recommendation block would push similar tagged content to user A.

Just a preliminary head's up that we'll be having a Library Drupal BoF as part of the Chicago Drupal Camp taking place at UIC on Friday & Saturday, Oct. 24 & 25.
They're still working on the program, but the Library BoF will be on Friday (10/24) in the early afternoon (probably starting at 2pm or 3pm). Location: Innovation Center (1240 W. Harrison - near Racine) in Chicago. (website: http://drupalcampchicago.org)
The goals of the Library BoF (besides getting together) are:
- Showcase library-related Drupal projects in the Chicagoland area.
- Talk about future plans and aspirations, field questions and compare experiences.
So whether you've done a project or would like to do a project, this event is for you. We had a great time doing this in Anaheim for ALA and it's good to organize something similar for the home team.
Mark you calendars today!
UPDATE (9/26/08): Here's the official link for the event on the Drupal Camp Chicago site:

The Encyclopedia of Life is keenly interested in using Drupal to allow participants the opportunity to carve off branches from the tree of life to start biologically meaningful social interactions among like-minded individuals. To really make use of Drupal, we're keen on improving the taxonomy module and we're also keen on developing several other modules to really make this work. The advancements made in the taxonomy module will no doubt be useful for many other projects that make heavy use of taxonomy.
