Drupal 5 themes - Book review

I have posted a review of Drupal 5 Themes by Ric Shreves. It's the first book dedicated entirely to Drupal theming. We needed this.

Basically, it's great for the designer wanting to learn Drupal or the Drupal newbie wanting to get a handle on Drupal's abstracted theme layer. While it covers the fundamentals well, I never found the cool new tricks I was hoping for.

New website - vulnerable?

Hello all!

I came to the March meeting for the first time knowing I was going to be playing with Drupal in more depth, but didn't realize that less than a week later I'd be starting a new website, http://www.driveslowly.org .

In announcing it to my network, someone I trust with significant hosting experience sent me the following note:

Drupal books at AADL

When I got the books for our one year party I was really struck by the desire to create a group library. I was then overwhelmed with the idea of having to continually track the books and make sure they are returned. Then Stephen reminded me that there is a perfectly good method for this already, the Ann Arbor District Library. Some of you may remember the talk that Eli gave to the group on the Libraries implementation of Drupal. What a awesomely perfect circle! And a quick search of the library catalogue shows no Drupal books. Every library should have Drupal books!

Drupal 6.0 is free and in the wild. Let's load it!

There are already over 120 contributed modules with atleast a development version for Drupal 6. Really!!

This will be a great event to bring someone new with you. It's time for you to spread the love that Drupal has paid to all of us over the last version. The wave is rising, let's ride!

The Secure Pages module

http://drupal.org/project/securepages

Pledges and Donations

I'm interested in being able to set up a pledging system, that can enable donation bounties as a content type, and allows people to first pledge, then be billed if pledges reach a capped amount, or have no one billed of pledges do not reach an amount.

Is it already possible to do this with existing modules (like e-commerce and cck)? If not, I am committed to producing this capability, and would feedback from this group on suggestions about how to approach from a module creation standpoint

2008-01-28 19:00 - 21:00 America/Detroit

Happy New Year!

Congratulations monan on the birth of your new baby!

So as i look forward to our next meeting (28Jan08) I wonder what we should talk about. This is your group, take control and suggest some agenda for our next meeting. Better yet, offer to lead us in something. Doesn't matter that you are new to Drupal and/or this group. I often use the approaching meeting as motivation to learn something new.

Just bark out suggestions as comments below.

sorry I missedthe last meeting

See you all next year. Here's a short update.

I've been able to get drupal installed on my WIMP dev server but can't seem to get 'multi-site working.

I've gotten drupal installed on my Shared host ISP but not quite working right.

Hoping to get back to more developement soon.

Right now I've bogged down deep in a client site's e-commerce site which for no apparent reason stopped taking credit cards three days ago.

Have a happy and healthy holiday season.

No December meeting.

The last Monday of the month in December is the 31st. This doesn't seem like a good night to hold a meeting. I'm going to be out of town anyway.

See you in the New Year!
Drink but don't drink and drive.

I have this one - http://alcotester.com/al-2500.htm
Fits nicely in my pocket.
Knowledge is a good thing. A poor guess can be criminal.

Views + Profile fields != User List

edit: This is only for Drupal 5. With Drupal 6 and Views 2 you can enumerate users.

Last Night at our meeting I was sure that views could not be used to create a list of users using profile fields. As to my knowledge, views is solely based on Nodes. Every view must be in context of a node.

I was proven wrong when someone quickly pulled up a views edit page and showed profile fields in the fields pull down.
