Conference Organizing Distribution (COD)

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Welcome

COD is a "Conference Organizing Distribution" meant to make it easy to build a site for manage events with features like session submission, registration, user profiles, forums, and logistical information.

You should use COD if you are building a site for a conference like a Drupalcamp or Barcamp, for an organization that offers trainings, for a Drupalcon perhaps, for a music venue that wants to sell tickets online without using ticketmaster, etc.

Newbie Questions 3 - Events & Sessions (This is it for today)

Now I'm looking at the documentation where it says "Create an event for people to attend." The tool tip for "Sessions" says a session happens during an event. So I assume the "event" is the conference. Could it also be a subset of the conference, like "Friday Afternoon Workshops?" When creating a session I do not see a slot for specifying which event the session is associated with. Is it that a session is configured for a certain time slot and if it falls within the duration of an event it automatically is associated with that event?

Newbie Questions 2 - Missing COD Attendees feature

In the COD Documentation, I'm seeing "Enable the COD Attendees feature (admin/build/modules)," but when I look at the list of COD features listed on the modules page, I don't see this one. Is there an explanation? I would like this feature set. Has it been dropped? Or is it folded into another module? BTW I'm using Alpha3 and Drupal 6.

Newbie Questions - What is a "Track"

Hello,
Please bear with me. I have used Drupal quite a lot, but am new to COD. I am going through the documentation, but need a little help.

First question: I'm at the "Update the session Track field allowed values in the Session content type." Is a "track" a group of sessions? Like Friday evening sessions vs. Saturday afternoon sessions?

On popular voting and merit-based selection of sessions

COD ships with the ability for "crowd-sourced" rating of sessions. The idea is to the the wider community have a say in DrupalCon session selection. I think this is a wonderful goal.

The practical reality, however, is this:

Recurring conferences with COD

I'm working on a site for an organization that runs a yearly conference. They're looking for all the functionality COD provides, plus the ability to add a new conference, see past conferences, etc. I'm new to COD but it doesn't appear it provides this kind of meta-conference functionality. I'd appreciate thoughts on how to extend COD to provide that or other approaches y'all would take to accomplish what they're looking for.

Regular Code Sprint?

In last week's downtown S.D. DUG, Andrew Root and I talked about the possibilities of starting a monthly working sprint for everyone to come together and do some meaningful stuff that the community needs which will also benefit us as a group. There was a show of hands numbering around 10 people of those who were interested, so let's get started!

Please click the 'Signup' button on this event so that we know how many are coming.

What should we do?

Organizers Ability to See What Sessions Attendees Have Selected?

First, what a brilliant package! I'm so happy I found this. Now, on to my question. I would like the ability, as the conference organizer, to see what sessions my attendees have selected for location planning purposes. For example, if I have 75 people select a session and put it in their schedule, but the room only holds 50, I want to be able to reschedule the session in a different room. Similarly, if I have only 15 people add a session to their schedule, but the room holds 100, I need to move it to a smaller room. Make sense? I looked for some report like this but couldn't find it.

[GSOC Idea] Onboarding module (API and UI)

[GSOC Idea] Onboarding module (API and UI)

Proposal co-written with kyle_mathews

Onboarding is the process where site owners help new site members orient themselves and take the important initial steps toward becoming full-fledged members of the site. This process is critical for many types of sites commonly built with Drupal such as community sites, intranets, event / conference sites, etc.
