Contributed Module Ideas

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.
This group should probably have more organizers. See documentation on this recommendation.

When a developer has an idea for a module, they are often not the only one with that idea.

By announcing module ideas here, this group aims to:

  • Reduce module duplication. We can prevent two independent developers from writing separate, duplicate modules.
  • Increase developer collaboration. We can get interested developers working together at an early stage of development.
  • Improve module quality. Others can shape and improve the ideas, leading to a better module from the beginning (or, at the least, a better road map for future development.)

Before submitting a new module idea, please do a little research and search for an existing module with the same functionality.

Guys,,
Been thinking of this weird module idea :P

Easy form Alter,

In all of my projects i would have to write atlest one module that does a lot of form alters.
And even though its fun writing the method. its tough to manage an extra module

How abuot a plug in module that will help u do form alterations easily

Should be like
1. Give the id of the form.
2. The form gets generated and you can alter its elements and its properties and so on

simplified event repeat for g.d.o

Meetup.com will do "event repeats" for people which is a great feature. The way the do it is that

  1. you opt into it and set the schedule on the original event
  2. right after that event passes they make a copy of that event and put it in the future based on your schedule

This is really simple, avoids a lot of the complexities of the current event repeat tool creating tons of events into the future, and it sends notifications in a more timely manner than the current event repeat tool might.

Anyone know of something like this?

Modal window API module akin to WYSIWYG API module

Hey guys,

Looking to start my first module, but doing some probing first.
The idea is that there are SO many modal window plugins out there for jquery, and it seems whenever someone wants one on their drupal site, they create a new module. It would seems that these API plugins likely have a lot in common, so creating a "bridge" API module akin to WYSIWYG API module would be a big plus.

Benefits:

Highrise module

I have begun work on a module to integrate 37signals' Highrise product with Drupal. At this point, it is just an admin screen for entering API credentials and a modified version of the simplehighrise.php API wrapper. I'm using it for webform post-processing. I can envision tighter integration with the contact form, much like the Campaign Monitor module.

This is my first module. Would anyone have a use for this? Or ideas for what else it might do?

Mafia Game Module

I'm a bit surprised this doesn't seem to exist, but I'd like a module to control the game Mafia. It can be played in a chat room, in person, or on a forum (More information). Strictly speaking, it doesn't need a module, but a module could be created to play as the moderator, who otherwise has to sit the game out.

Wufoo import module

Hi everyone, I'm in the process of creating a Wufoo import module (www.wufoo.com) for Drupal and I would like to contribute what I create back to the community. I am developing it at present. The basic spec is to be able to connect to wufoo, choose to import data from specific forms and then map those forms to content types for dynamic node creation.

Any thoughts from anyone would be welcome - at present I trying to decide if I can reuse any existing import code in another module for dynamically creating my nodes.... ideas?

:)

CiviCRM dasboard for drupal user account.

Hello Folks,

How about showing User related CiviCRM data in drupal user account?
Some usecases can be:
1. showing users contributions.
2. Event registrations.
3. Memberships signups
4. Relationships, etc
In their drupal account.
I have just started working on it.

My basic idea was to show users monthly contributions (in tabular and flash chart display) on drupal user account then I decided to extend this for Events, Membership and Relationships.

This one is subtle. The option to hide the node title.

Making the node title hidden, by having an option in the node edit form. I think this is pretty important. I use this in Google Sites all the time, but haven't found a module for this in Drupal, yet. The title still needs to be accessible for other modules, forms, UI elements, and SEO that use a title.

It would be a very simple module that would hide the title via a stylesheet. However, it lets the author decide whether or not the title should be visible. This way, you still have to set the title, but it can be optionally displayed on the page.

Template files for regions (e.g. region-right.tpl.php)

In D6, the place to theme an entire region is in the page.tpl.php file, but I like having a little more flexibility.

So, I created a module that lets me define a region-right.tpl.php template file, for theming an entire region. This way, even if I have several "page" template files, the regions can be maintained with a separate template file without having to copy the region's HTML to each "page" template file.

Does anyone know of a module that does this already? Or, how this can be done in D6, without creating a special module?

"Content Complete" for custom Member Profile Modules/Forms... "Module Completeness"?

In my usage of Drupal I have come to really like the Content Complete (http://drupal.org/project/content_complete) module that looks at the fields, including CCK of a node, and displays in a block what still needs to be completed.

I am now working with a client who has their member profile in a custom module, as it does have a lot of stuff going on from being able to ad contact to one's profile, etc. etc. in which the Profile module or Content Profile module are not sufficient (and even if they were, it would be a bunch of work to get their site working under those, and no time for that now).

The client wants users to be able to see how many fields of their profile, of our custom member_profile module, need to be filled out, etc.

So...........

I've been trying to figure out how to turn Content Complete into a program that instead of looking at a node's CCK, it looks at a module's hook_scheme to get the fields it populates for a user (must have a uid column), then let admin select which ones are needed for completeness, and then show completeness meter in blocks.

Absolute Link Footer Navigation module

The SEO guru that I work with is a stickler for having absolute links in the footer navigation. I am not an SEO person, so I cannot verify the validity of this. However, I have created a module that let's you choose a menu to display in a block and outputs the links as absolute links.

Is this something that I should contribute OR is there something that already does this OR does anyone even care about absolute links in footer navigation?

Thanks,
Tom Camp

Absolutely Positioned Login Form?

I'm thinking of making a module which outputs the HTML and CSS to put an absolutely positioned login bar in the top right of the web page. It would be kind of like this hack, http://drupal.org/node/92657, except it would just require enabling a module. The goal is a login look similar to Facebook. I understand that this could be done by a custom block and some CSS, but I think there should be a module for this. Is this a stupid idea?

Admin module to filter content by user

I'm in need of a module that would allow an admin to filter all content (nodes and comments) by user. For example, we have a site with 122k+ users creating nodes and comments and sometimes we get complaints of spam from some. It would be a big help if we could see all nodes and comments authored by the user in question to help determine if it's a one-time issue or if they are a repeat offender.

Is there a module out there that does this or do I need to write one?

Thanks.
-Brian

OG Vs Group

The issue of renaming Organic groups (OG) to Group was raised in several places, but it's probably a good idea to have it in a central place which is accessible to many.

There are very good reasons for renaming the module, but just as good to not renaming it. Following the suggested Drupal Code of Conduct (#DCOC):

When we are unsure, we ask for help
